Bontrager Race Lite Alloy Aero Brake Levers

Is anyone using these levers? If so, I’d love to hear about them. Are they exactly the same as the new, carbon Race XXX Lite levers only in aluminum? Built-in return spring, correct?

Also, I did some googling trying to learn more about them, but only seem to get results from non-CONUS (mostly UK) shops selling them. Anyone know what the MSRP is or where to buy them in the US? Couldn’t find anything on the Bontrager site, either.

Thanks.

Steve

They are the same, except aluminum and 1 gram heavier (at least that’s what I was told).

I use them and like them.

Thanks.

Did you order them online or through your LBS? I’m having trouble finding them online, so I don’t even know what they cost.

Steve

I bought mine in a shop and they were right next to a pair of the carbon XXX levers. Just from what I could tell, they are identical except the carbon levers. Not enough difference for me to justify almost double the cost. Yes, they have a return spring and it is strong as hell.

The only downsides that I can think of are:
On bars with upturned “hoods” the levers point straight down. I have no idea if this effects aerodynamics and any effect are probably minimal, just a minor gripe.
The lever pivots in a way that can catch the skin between your thumb and index finger if you’re not careful, that and the strong return spring can pinch the shit out of you. Again just minor and something I learned not to do more than once.

I got mine at MissionBayMultisport in Chicago, but I thought you could order from Bontrager.com.

I think they’re around $70 vs. $120 for the carbon versions. I could be talking out my a$$ on the price of the carbon ones, though.
