Who…at what…??
Oh smell the irony… “LeDopedChicken” comments on Bonds.

Agreed.
I hope he hits 756 tomorrow so we can move on and direct our focus to the playoff run.
Exactly. Who cares? The national league central is far more interesting to me.
Good for him! What’s funny to me is the crowd response. Everyone talked about how no one would cheer and everyone would boo if he hit nos 755 and 756 away from SF but you really didn’t hear any booing(though I’m sure there was some), lots of cheering and camera flashes, though.
selection bias
.
Of course I’m sure the scene would have been a lot different in LA, NY, or Philly.
Great poke to left center… I wish he would have hit 756 just so I could see Bud struggle again to not put his hands together to make a clap. Bonds ties the biggest MLB mark and Bud (what I saw) cant even clap, what a shame!
Why should Bud clap when a cheater and a jerk ties a nice guys record?
Wait, was hank a nice guy?
Then let him come out and call Barry a cheater in front of the camera, if not then clap! My guess is most of us would come off as jerks having to live the life of fame. Sorry but Barry is the greatest / most feared hitter of our day and definitely by far not the only one “cheating”. I hope he hits 20 more then retires after this year so you guys can spend the next 8-9 years breaking down and digging up dirt on A-Rod.
If bonds doesn’t want people giving him crap about cheating, bonds shouldn’t have cheated.
=)
ARods time is already here, Canseco is ON IT!
My focus is and will still be on the actual season and not him. On that note, I was glad his team lost the game, and the D’backs won. Now the G men are 13 back. I don’t care how many hr’s he hits as long as he never gets a ring.
Wow, a reporter just asked him about hitting 755 off a pitcher that is also a roid head. Nice.
More interesting to me is the fact that A-Rod became the fastest to 500 on the same day.
You guys crack me up.
If such a “national yawn”, why start a thread about it?
And what were your expectations of the reaction when it did finally happen?
IMO, it’s because the media keeps following the story as if there is a clamouring for national attention. It’s an easy story for the medio because it’s all emotion and no resreach (i.e., work).
People clapped for Bonds at Petco Park b/c Well, it’s San Diego, The people that bought tickets to the game likely aren’t those rooting against him, and people tend to go with the crowd.
I’m listening to “The Herd” on ESPN Radio and it’s interesting that the crows boo’d their own pitchers when they walked Bonds, people cheered when he hit the homer, yet they boo’d Bonds when he came to the plate. As Cowherd said, “Morons, pick a lane, stop driving down the center.” I thought that was pretty funny.
In the end, people paid big money to see a historical event. They applauded the event and were thankful they didn’t waste their money on a 1-for-4 night.
It kills me how Selig is trying to “distance” himself from Bonds with these little public disrespectful displays. Selig is waist-deep in the mess he allowed and now he’s trying be Lily White. BUt, I would like to see Bonds call Selig out man-to-man and confront him about his role (lack of action) in baseball’s steroid mess.
Bonds hitting 756 in Philly would be … they boo their OWN All-Stars!
A conversation, a couple years from now:
“Daddy, who hit the most homeruns EVER?”
“Sadaharu Oh from Japan. 868.”
“I mean in America”
“Hank Aaron. 755.”
“What about Barry Bonds?”
“Doesn’t count. He was a *fictional *character.”
“Exactly. Who cares?”
Basball fans. This gives them another reason to make notes and makes changes to their fantasy team then argue about * for hours upon hours. Baseball doesn’t suck…the fans do.
Baseball steroid arguments > Triathlon drafting arguments
.
Exactly how I will tell it to my kids and grand kids.
I’ll tell my kids that Barry Bonds was the greatest player of my generation, whose ego was so big that he couldn’t stand Big Mac and Sammy cheating their way to getting more attention than him, so he cheated too. Now, they’re all shamed.
Of course by then, steroids will likely be so ingrained in athletic performances that they’ll wonder “What was all the fuss about Bonds and drugs? Duh.” I hope not, but that’s where we’re heading (if not already there).

It’s America’s pastime for over 100 years. Blow me. Go talk about chain-rings and stem length or something. (joking). I think that’s what makes baseball great. You’ll argue with your dad for hours about whether Brooks Robsinson or Mike Schmidt was the better all around 3rd baseman. Baseball has always been, and continues to be, about fathers and sons. They play it together when young, and argue about when old. It’s beautiful.
It’s goofy, but in the last week+ their has been MORE talk about ARod hitting 800 homers (he just hit #500) then there has been about Bonds hitting 756.
Only a guy like Bonds could make the nation love ARod.
I’m wondering if views on steroids will change if/when more people get busted, accussed, or admit. It’s going to be tough to realize that Bonds hit 756 and cheated to get there (given his talent), but ARod was “natural” all the way too 800 homers (Note: I am NOT conceding that ARod will hit 800 … I think all the talk is garbage).
Seriously, I wonder if our views on steroids will change. Pujols? ARod? Eric Gagne? etc? (Whatever happened to steroid poster boy Gabe Kapler?) I admit steroids in football is a given, and it doesn’t bother me. Drug use in the NBA doesn’t bother me, or hockey, etc. But baseball is my sport, and it bothers me. I wonder for how many generations it will bother people and how long (if) it takes to get to the point of "Just let em use whatever they want, they’re all using anyway).
Thoughts on the society’s future perspective on steroids?
