Has anyone done this race? We met a couple from upstate NY in a pub in Kingston, Ont. Started talking and it turned out they are runners (not triathletes) and have strongly recommended this event as a good time great event. I hear it attracts 13,000 and there is lots of beer after available after the race. Sounds like my kind of fun.
The wife is keen to go and it wouldn’t take much arm twisting to convince me. Anyone familiar with this event?
My wife and I ran this race last year for the first time. Man, is it a hoot! But you can’t “race” it unless you are up front. The crowd is so big, that you are literally held at the pace by the folks around you. But, if you are going for a good time, it’s about the funnest road race we have ever done. Superb support, more spectators on the course than I have ever seen. 9.3 miles of solid support. Jets flying over before the Star-Spangled Banner. Too many positives to mention. Send me a private message if you want some other specifics - where to stay, park, etc.
Might do it again this year, but it was quite a hike for us to get there from southern MD. Just a lot of time in the car that could have been better spent. As for the afterparty, make very specific arrangements with the folks in your party. Otherwise, you’ll never find them. Strong recommendation from this end. And a great distance, too.
