I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. When I am done riding, it is like my body goes into a coma. I have to put on a sweatshirt and windpants on to stay warm. It also seems like I need a nap right after riding and this is like riding from 10-30 miles. While riding, I hardly sweat. Anybody else get the chills after riding? It seems like I find myself wearing an underarmor shirt under my cycling jersey, and sometimes the long-sleeve version, even when it is 85+ outside. Like tonight, I had on nike tights, underarmor shirt, and cervelo tri skinsuit on over the top. Is this due to low body fat%, missing something in the diet, or something else. I am like 5’9",160lbs, and 31inch waist. Any thoughts would be great. Thank you.
The only time this happened to me was when I was suffering some sort of heat exhaustion due to riding in 110 degree weather with less than adequate hydration. I could not get warm, didn’t recover for several days.
Are you hydrating enough? The not sweating sounds worrisome.
Do you eat any special quantity/quality of food prior to riding, that might not digest well under effort and make you fell ill?
Do you ride at high exertion for reasonably long durations when you are not used to it (it is still early in the season for some of us)?
I’ve found that cumulative high exertion endurance activity without enough recovery between causes a stress that behaves sort of like shock – makes you feel cold. Ease off the intensity and/or cut back quantity, if this is you.
They have a question something like this in the latest Runner’s World. (page 41)
They said it might be hypothyroidism, which leads to low body temperatures. They also said it might be due to not taking in enough calories.
Is this a new problem? Doing anything different lately?
