Intentionally toss a 98mph high heater at an opponent’s face, get tossed from one game. Toss a beverage in the general direction of a player, life and career upended. Seems about right.
He should be made to clean up the bathrooms after every home game for a season or two. So he can learn where that beer is supposed to end up, in the urinal, trough, commode, floor, everywhere except the playing field.

Only if you are the second pitcher to do it in a game. The first pitcher gets a free pass.
This would be significantly less of a to do if it wasn’t a can. I still blame the stadium operator for that. I remember a guy 20 maybe more years ago ran onto Wrigley and tackled a player. A lot less of an issue

Yeah I don’t know when they atarted doing that again but I noticed last year at a game that they hand out a can with a cup on top.
…and FWIW, I think you are conflating two different stories. There was “snowballs at santa” and then “batteries at the opposing team”…or something like that.
It was snowballs at santa, batteries were tossed at someone else. The santa incident was in the late 60’s, batteries were in the 90’s. The 700 level attitude died with Vet stadium. Face it, Blue Jays fans are the new idiots of major league sports! At least for now we may earn that title back. To bring it full circle…
If you are at a concert and actually get hit and concussed by a thrown can of beer, will the police do anything more than say, ‘you should have ducked’?
It isn’t that what he did was excusable but the amount of sleuthing and punishment are way over the top. And it bothers me that employers tend to fire anyone who gets caught up in any sort of viral act. Not every bad act means the person’s life should be destroyed.
