Blue Competition Cycles

anybody have any experience with the Blue Triad TT bike? what do you think of it? i am thinking of getting one and curious to how they compare to other bikes and if there is any wind tunnel data on it. thanks

It’s fast. Way fast.

Comfortable - but the seat mast can lead to some issues.

Blue is a great company. They don’t formally sponsor us, but their reps (of whom I’ve met two) are awesome guys, who take great care of us. Their bikes are, without a doubt, just as high quality as any major manufacturer, but they do feel a little more “down home”. Try it out. If it fits and it comfortable, go for it.

In all seriousness, you’re only allowed to put Red on it. Because a Blue with Red is just beautiful.

cool, youve seen some yaw angle sweeps from the tunnel, or done some field testing?

care to share the data?

The geometry is up in the stack and reach charts. It’s a “narrow and tall” bike. So it fits a narrower band of folks than something like a p2c. It’s about 4.5cm taller in stack than a comparable p2. But, if you run a very low stack aerobar (like the HED or Pro Missile) on the Blue, it would fit similarly to a P2 with a higher stack aerobar, like a 3T Brezza.

In general, I’d avoid anything higher stack than a Vision bar. Definitely stay away from Profile Design and Syntace.

I think you’ll be happy with the aero performance. It seems like a well thought out, well executed bike. The geometry wouldn’t be my first choice, but if it fits you, great. But, if you want to run a super low front end, this is not the bike for you.

It's not Jack Mott quality data, but I trained and raced on one for two and a half weeks, and there was NO discernible difference between that and my P3C. I know! I know! Ban me now! But my P3 was in the shop, and the mechanic who promised to do it for me had a surgery. The shop lent me a built-up Triad (we chose it because it had the closest seat mast and handlebar height), and I threw my wheels on there. I had a casual duathlon (the second of three in a series) right before I gave it back, and actually turned in a faster time on that one than I did on my P3C the month before (but that was fitness).

I think the most overrated thing about all you aero-weenies is FEEL. The Blue FEELS like a quality bike. It handles very well and is very stable, but it isn’t overly stiff, so if you ride like Fabian, it probably isn’t ideal.

well hey thats a better answer than “its fast”!

I haven’t ridden this specific bike, but I do have an rc.4 and love it. Blue is awesome for their super stiff frames. I would recomend.

If you buy a new Blue Triad, you get a free hour of aero fitting at the A2 Windtunnel in Charlotte, NC. If I were in the market for a new bike, this offer would be hard to resist. As they say in their magazine ad (paraphrasing) ‘no fewer than 5 bike companies claim to have the “fastest bike in the world” but no matter how “fast” or “aero” the bike is, the rider accounts for about 85% of overall drag’

Anyway, here’s the link I found:

how long does a wind tunnel session usually last?

I think you get one hour of tunnel/fit time.

Jordan,

Please clarify what you mean by “narrow” bike…are you simply referring to the width of the tubes?

I’m guessing he meant a short top tube – small reach.
