Blowing on the flames...Wear a Helmet?

So with all the helmet Nazi’s here of recent times professing their wisdom and dogmatic views of how “intelligent” people behave I have been thinking. In my USCF days, even as a junior helmets were “dorky” and only dorks wore them. Well, years went by, USCF smartly mandated helmets and since that time no less than 3 helmets saved me from serious injury…one from certain death (did break C1 and C2).

So…did you all see the latest Colorado Cyclist? How dare they show on the cover not one, but six cyclists on bikes with out helmets!!! What kind of message is corperate America sending us poor impressionable cyclists with photos of Pros with out foam lids on their noggins? I say we all boycott Colorado Cyclist and instead order every part we need from Demmerly.

I noticed the same thing when I picked up my mail today. The riders on the cover are all over the road, and none of them are wearing helmets. Elsewhere in the catalog (except page 71, not that I’m anal enough to actually go through page-by-page :-)), folks are wearing helmets.

My best friend from High School died from a head injury sustained while cycling, so maybe I’m a little bit oversensitive to the issue. But still…
