Bloomington, IN

Anyone from the area? Or familiar with the cycling scene/LBS/triathlon scene? I’m moving there for grad school and I am looking for some idea of what it’ll be like once I am there.

You’re in for a treat my friend.

Can’t talk to triathlon scene (or particulars about LBSs, etc), but Bloomington area is a GREAT place to ride.

Tons of interest in cycling both in the Fall and especially the spring as the Little 500 takes over.

I miss my time in Bloomington and the great routes we used to take - particularly to Nashville IN.

In addition… one of the greatest movies ever was filmed there. Be sure to check out…

I live in Bloomington. Its a great place to live. As said earlier, there is a huge cycling scene here (both young undergrads and post grads ). ANd a decent running community, IU track club, and other smaller groups who train together. The IU Swim Club is a great training option for siwmming - its a club sport, undergrads, grad students, staff, faculty, some public members. Lots of post-undergrad swimmers who still kick some ass, so we have some really good training sessions there too. And if you like mountain biking, the jewel of Indiana mountain biking is just 20 minutes away in Brown COunty State Park, as well as many other options not too far drive. Lots of places to run trails, lots of hills (shorter and steeper as opposed to longer and more gradual). Town is small, so its only minutes to get outside of the town area out into good riding roads. Pavement is generally in very good shape. WInters don’t totally suck (usually). Summers don’t totally suck either (except right now - high of 98 today, 80%+ humidity). Tons of races, both road and off-road, in the state, and neighboring states.

I hope you like Bloomington as much as I do!

Are you doing the sprint in Columbus this weekend? I am coming down on Firday, by brother and sister-in-law live halfway between Columbus and Nashville we will be staying with them. Looks like it will be a good race.

No, I’ve raced two weekends in a row, so this weekend I get to go to a family reunion. I’ve never done the Columbus race. That lake is very small, the water is going to be very warm! Of course, you will probably be out of the water before you even notice how warm it is! Have fun!

When I saw it was a 1/2 mile swim instead of the typical 1/4 miles I wanted to sign up for it. I just hope the bike is not to hilly- up here in northern Indiana it flat as a pancake so I get little hill training. I can see me going backwards pretty quick if there is a lot of climbing.

I raced last wekend also, bt this is my last race this year so i am hope to have fun and not blow up like my last to races.

Its very flat over there. Once you get east of Nashville, it flattens out into farmland. You will have no trouble.

I already own it. It was one of our “staple” cycling movies during my undergrad, classic movie.
