Fairly cluess on this stuff, and wondering do I need a web page to do what I want on line. It’s likely I don’t even know enough to know the right questions to ask. Hope I can provide enough info here for someone to steer me right.
I’m a google guy, and I’ve got a biggitybiggidy.blogspot.com blog right now. Not sure, but looks like I could have audio on the blog but that it might be cumbersome.
I want to podcast, or, if that’s not the proper term, otherwise have downloadable audio on my blog - or a web page if needed.
I’d like to not have a limit on how much I can upload, such as a 1hr audio intrvw, but have no idea how many MB this involves.
Would be nice to have the ability to upload video casts (with audio). Perhaps other features that would only be available with a page v blog (polls, forum
I’m thinking web page might be worth it, hoping the technology is at the point where I can get a domain and web page hosting, maybe even with some setup support, with video and audio and blog ability for $5-$15 a month, and that this is all truly user friendly - don’t need to know html, and can do it all via the hosting entity, not have to find a seperate audio, video upload/store site, not require multiple software tools, etc.
I have a 2yr old digital camera and have been given a new olympus portable dig voice recorder.
Comcast broadband at home, win xp
There are a number of sites that offer video feeds as your blog, that might be the way to go.
I do not think any regular blog site will work with video, especially not a 1 hr piece.
I’ll have to do some research.
Check out www.scobleizer.com in particular his link to the “Scoble Show”, which is his podtech.net video blog. It should give you some ideas on how a very VERY successful IT blogger has implemented some of this stuff. My guess off the top of my head is http://www.kyte.tv/home/index.html will be a viable option for you. So if you search on that (using Google of course from your iGoogle page eh?) you might come up with some competitors. Wikipedia also might list some competitors.
I think you’ll have to define what you’re trying to do a bit more. For instance an 1hr long audio file and 192kbs compressed into an MP3 file is only around 80MB. No biggy for most decent web site hosts. However if you plan on streaming that most sites have a data upload/download etc limitation. you’ll quickly go over these limits if you have any number of people listening to hour long audio files.
I have no idea either on sites that are meant to pretty much set up everything for you. Closest thing I can think of is something like a myspace. I have no idea what they have for limitations and that might be what you’re looking for. In order to get everything set up it will probably take some knowledge, then again there are probably any number of people out there that would do it for you.
Blog should work for what you want. Host all video/audio files on youtube and embed the video in the blog.
On sites like blogger.com it is super simple.
Thanks for the thoughts, keep 'em coming anyone.
I’ll check out the links.
Hadn’t even thought of myspace.
Podcasting (pure audio, no vid) is my primary goal. Maybe I can pull it off within the blog I’ve established with blogger.com, as Herbert suggests. If embedding audio in a blog is really easy, it just may turn out that the real hurdle for me is learning to edit voice recordings and get them up to youtube, which would be cool.
I’m all about not reinventing the wheel, whenever possible.
