Blind lawyer hit by cyclist in Central Park

are you nuts? first of all, the rider was on a mountain bike. second, he was going the wrong way and UP the slope at the top of the reservoir. third, even if he were going north (the right way), the road is flat there. i ride loops in the 14s and i NEVER have hit 35mph right there (and that’s on a tri bike riding in the right direction and not in the running lane). one can hit 35 a little further up the road where the softball fields are on the left but that’s not where the crash happened. also, if i hit someone going 35, they would be a lot more banged up than bernstein was. they probably would be dead like the homeless guy is who got hit by a roadie down by the boat house a few years ago during a CRCA TT. that’s why there aren’t anymore TTs in the park.
i still don’t know how people are inferring that the cyclist was going the wrong way. all i see is:
Bernstein said he also heard a cop saying the bicyclist was cruising down the slope near E. 95th St. at 35 mph.

and just to clarify, i don’t think he hit 35, just that there could be quite a bit of speed. people are also forgetting that this may be a 35lb mtb rather than a 17lb road bike

that said, here’s some red herring
i said you can hit 35 for sprint practices, not for a steady state effort (unless your steady state is 350W). I’ve done openers that stops at the dip after the bridge over 96th and got up to 33mph on basically 350W for 30 seconds. Anyone who can do a 450W for 30 seconds can hit 35mph easy.
