Blackwell Warranty?

Just got a bike that came with some blackwell 50’s (new) carbon clinchers, I was trying the wheel today and I noticed the break surface seems to be separated from the rim, it rubs with the rear brake and comes to complete stop when I spin with my hand, I looked closely and it seems to be cracked… so 2 questions:

  1. Anybody had this happen to their blackwell as well?
  2. Since I read blackwell went out of business who will warrant this wheel?

I am planning on going tomorrow back to the LBS to ask for warranty service but wonder what they will be able to do?

Any opinions?

Usually warranties are for the original owner are they not?

unfortunately you are probably SOL.

I am the first owner as these where never sold before…

I took the wheel back to the LBS and inspected it carefully, it look’s like the rim wall is 2 pieces and the outer piece (brake surface) separated from the inner piece (where the tire sits). The LBS said he would try to find out who is looking after blackwell wheels now and let me know what can be done.

Does anybody know who is looking after blackwell warranties??

Does anybody know who is looking after blackwell warranties??

As the previous poster said, probably nobody. Sorry.

Why would anyone be “looking after blackwell warranties”? The company failed, no-one else is going to pick up their warranty commitments.

If I was buying Blackwell stuff now that fact would feature heavily in determining the price I was willing to pay (which wouldn’t be much).

I guess you are right… thought perhaps somebody had bought them or they where still running a smaller shop, or whatever… I was just trying to keep my hopes up.

I will have to rely on the LBS to correct the problem then, either get me a replacement or a credit for the wheels.
