Blackwell Brake Levers

Does anyone have any experiences with Blackwell brake levers?

Francois does.

Who is Francois?

A goofy midget who needs to get his own tv show.

I have them on my Elite Razor. I like them a lot. They have a nice area to grip and seem very light. They do have some rattle over really rough pavement, but I hear this is the case with almost all levers.

Doesn’t Discovery use them on their TT bikes?

I have been using them for the past 5 mos. They are comfortable, light, work and look great. I have not experienced any rattle and the roads here are pretty rough.

The Blackwell carbon levers kick ass. Dave Bunce frequents this board and can give you more info.

yes, D will have them on their TT bikes.

the only concern I had initially was that they may be a bit slippery (and it gets pretty hot here) but there are just fine.
Light, spring works fine, no rattle…really neat and they look very good of course.

Blackwell says that they are used on the Discovery Team, guess we’ll have to see.

Since it seems like people are using the levers, is anyone used the Blackwell calipers?

I’ve used them on and off for about a year, both the carbon and alloy version. Early on I had a problem with the hole for the cable housing and end being too large, thus allowing the housing to pull through. Tektro corrected this and now all is good. They are spring loaded, but it’s pretty light. I bounce between these and the Profile Brake Levers… mostly it depends on the bars. The feel is good. The Carbon is cool! If you are looking for light, they are a great buy. I despise the rattling Vision levers. I like to save grams but not at my sanity’s expense.

We designed the Carbon TT levers to give athletes better performance for their bikes. The Carbon model weighs 128g and has an internal return spring to help keep your calipers retracted! They also feature ti bolts. Our levers do not rattle as another popular model on the market. And yes, Team Discovery is using our levers on their TT machines. They actually approaced us!!

The levers come in an alloy version as well. Thanks for your kind words and please let me know if there are any further questions I can answer.

Dave

Yep, no problems with those either. Feel is great! Their transition bag rocks too!

Is the only difference between the alloy and the carbon the material? How do your calipers compare to the Dura-Ace calipers in performance?

Yes, the only difference between our levers is the material. Both have the return spring.

Like the D/A calipers, Blackwell Research calipers are dual pivot and have tremendous stopping power. They are lighter (298g), and cost (149.99), less than Shimano or Campy.
