Thought you guys would want to see the lastest from Blackwell Research.

Not positive yet I think these will be the particulars bar is 42cm c/c - 15.5mm thick - weighs 222 gr. and will use any std. brake lever, center section is 31.8 and has internal cable routing. I think the price will be $230.00. Currently have one on order and will be installing on my bike for a hands on test.

looks just like the bontrager?

It doesnt look anything like the bontrager, it looks like a visiontech with oversized clamping

.

You are right. I did not notice that the Blackwell was flat. I think that I am going to try the Bontrager. I have the new Hed and it feels very awkward in my hands especially out of the saddle. A bar with a bit more shape and a small hook at the end might be better.
BTW-have you found a way to get the Hed Flip-lites secure on the carbon basebars? I am using carbon paste but they still seem to move a bit- don’t want to overtighten. I may put a piece of sandpaper between the clamp and the basebar.

Carbon paste has seemed to work well for us, but if that doesnt work, Vision used to send these small grip tape type stickers that are adhesive on one side, sandpaperish on the other side. That works well.

After the HEDs, the Bontragers are my 2nd favorite, very nicely made.

Just installed the Bontrager basebar and 31.8 flip-lites. They seem to tighten down nice with carbon paste. Maybe the tolerances are different on the 31.8 brackets? Could not use SRAM brake levers as the cable only goes through the slot to the outside- put vision brake levers on.
I will see how it feels to ride- it looks 100 times better than with the Hed basebar!

Rode the Bontrager basebars- they look better than they ride- at least for me. I do not need the drop. Still having problems with the clip-ons moving on the basebar. I am going to try the adhesive sandpaper. How tight do the Hed Flip-lites need to be? They seem really tight.

Explain. Just the fit? Too wide? Flexy? I have a pair sitting on the table waiting to be installed…

I also had problems getting my HED Cliplites to stop sliding on my Vision Tech carbon basebar. First I tried the Ritchey compound, which adds more grip, and this work for one side, but not the other. I had to use a file and take a little off the back plate, this is the part where the mounting screw goes in. When I say a little, I mean just a very tiny amount.

I’ve been riding a pair for a few weeks. They are not flexy. At all.

I have Zipp pad holders with Oval extensions and they’re staying on there just fine.

While I was not using the oversized set up, I was using the HED flip-lites with the Easton Delta Force basebar and had no problems at all. What I did do was take some 220 sandpaper and rough up the clamping area for the aerobars and stem. I then took the sand paper and broke all of the sharp edges on the clamping area of the aerobars and the stem. This has worked on every single carbon bar that I have used.

Too wide and I do not need the drop. Also flat portion feels way too small and smooth to put my hands for seated climbing. Felt good out of the saddle and cornering though.
I think they would work well for someone taller who needs the added drop and never rides on the flat part.

threaded side or non threaded? Did you file both top and bottom?

Threaded side, and I only filed the bottom.

How much drop does the Blackwell bar have?
