So what’s the story on this race, particularly the bike course? I was checking out a friend’s results and those splits and overall times are absolutely amazing! 2:03/3:47 for Chris Legh! Yes, that’s a 27.2mph average on the bike!! Natascha goes 2:17 and 4:13?! Top amateur male female in 4:07 and 4:28!
Flat bike? Favorable conditions? Short course? My buddy biked 15 minutes faster than he expected!
wasn’t there (was racing on other side of state at Spud), but if their weather was anything like ours it was PERFECT: 65-70F, 100% overcast, light and variable winds. doesn’t get any better without your own personal omnidirectional tailwind. attention inventors…
Not wishing to devalue Chris’s awesome bike ride this morning, but most folk I’ve spoke to agree with me that the Eagleman bike course is about 55 miles. The 55 mile marker was about 0.3 mls from the end, but I suspect that was slightly incorrect too, (having measured the course on calibrated computers a couple of times). To run a 1-14 after a bike at that speed is incredible. I raced this morning, the swim was somewhat slower than it can be, the bike had some breezes going on but was better than most years, and the run was about as good as it can get in June. The organisation and helpers were great, though draft-busters seemed a little thin on the ground. Great race.
The bike today was an absolute speedfest. Today was my first time doing this course, but I understand in past years it can be very windy or very hot or both. Today there was a nice overcast, temps mid to low 70s and a mild wind that was only a headwind for a few sections. There are actually a couple of very small bridges on the bike course, but even these are flat! The roads were in good shape, turns far apart. Time to just haul butt. Someone else mentioned last week on ST that the bike is only 55 miles as well.
