#BlackLivesMatter

When the street ethos of “snitches get stitches” goes the way of the Dodo, I’ll take it somewhat seriously.

I work in critical care and trauma surgery in the nation’s capital. I can count on my fingers and toes the number of shifts I’ve worked over the last two years in which a young black male didn’t enter our doors with stab wounds or bullet holes. My inquiry to the accompanying officers is always met with the same response:

“None of the witnesses saw a thing.”

The majority of these go unsolved, in part because the witnesses never talk. The suspects are always young black males. When they’re not, it’s because they either fired at an officer when being pursued for commission of a crime, or were injured by the person they were trying to rob.

In every instance. Without exception.

#BlackLivesMatter makes a great hashtag and protest t-shirt, but that’s about where the caring ends.

New shirt idea #BlackLivesMatter > #SnitchesGetStitches
.

You’ve explained liberalism.

#JustCare

So to sum up:

If black lives mattered, snitches wouldn’t get stitches.

Sad to read. Certainly a contributor to the problem.

Thank you for posting this. I actually copied the major part of your quotation and pasted it on my Facebook page. This is one of the most intelligent things I’ve read on this whole series of tragedies.

Thanks again!

Thanks for linking this story, I just posted it on my Facebook page.

“None of the witnesses saw a thing.”

If they didn’t see anything, then they are not witnesses.

If you or a family member would get hurt if you saw something, then you can damn sure bet you wouldn’t see anything either.

Short term thinking.

The only way for those conditions to get any better is if the community stops tolerating the shitheads.

All lives matter, but when “innocent black teen” assaults me and my family in the parking lot, my life will suddenly matter more to me, as he will find out real quick. (true story)

It may be but it is also about survival unfortunately.

I’m not sure I 100% follow. I am going to go out an a limb and assume these cases where “nobody say anything” were cases of “black on black” crime.

What does this have to do with excessive force by predominantly white police against minorities?

I’m not saying that there is isn’t a community problem with reporting of black on black crime, I’m just saying that raising that issue as a hand wave to diminish another obvious issue is a pretty weak argument. Let me sum up your rant, “If blacks don’t care about violence against blacks due to other blacks then I don’t think there is a real urgency to address the issue of violence against blacks by white police.”

The point is not to dismiss the issue of law enforcement violence against young black men. It’s to dismiss the people who think they’re cleverly scoring political or social points by tossing out that slogan, while clearly not embracing its full meaning. The outrage and dissemination of this slogan wasn’t brought about by the horrific amount of black on black violence that has been taking place for decades. It seems to have been brought about by misguided or deliberately deceitful people with a poorly informed race agenda.

…and perpetuated by clueless assholes who care more about being activists for their side with total disregard for fact and foreseeable consequence.

BERKELEY, Mo. – Minutes before Christmas Day officially started, a few dozen activists stood outside the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis, Missouri, with lit candles and posters in memory of Antonio Martin, a black 18-year-old who was fatally shot by a police officer Tuesday night in the St. Louis suburb of Berkeley.

“The intent is to gather people in honor of him and other people who have been slain by police,” Lydia Marie, 23, an intern for Amnesty International who coordinated the demonstration, told The Huffington Post. “This is another Christmas Eve a family is spending without their child who was lost to police violence.”

“As a black man, I’m trying to consistently deal with this, waking up and seeing slayings on the news,” said Michael Anthony, 29, a cinematographer from St. Louis. “Hopefully things like will spearhead overall connectivity, and by next summer we’ll be one unified movement.”

A few hours earlier, several hundred **protesters in Berkeley had shut down an interstate highway. Nearby, gunshots were fired and at least two women were arrested after several people attempted to loot a beauty supply store, breaking its windows and doors. **It was not immediately clear whether protesters or police officers had fired the shots. Dozens of police officers, some in riot gear and others holding clubs, patrolled the crowd, which also staged a “die-in.”…

“In light of all we know, and with respect to all who hurt most now, we must not let misconceptions prevail,” Opal Tometti, co-founder of the activist group Black Lives Matter, wrote in a blog post on HuffPost earlier this week. “This is a challenging moment, but we must maintain the integrity of our message and moral movement.”

Fuck each and every one of these dishonest and ignorant assholes. They do nothing to help the officers who try to keep their neighborhoods safe, and then paint them as racist executioners and put targets on their backs as thanks. You couldn’t pay me enough money to wear a badge and serve these assholes.

Great article–thanks for sharing.

This is the kind of BS that I dislike about the whole media blasting this crap lately.

What happened to just

LIVES MATTER?

Why are suddenly blacks more important than the rest of the population?
Yes, because its the crap everyone is watching on TV.

Sweet Jesus. He pulled a loaded gun on a cop.

Here’s a fact: black, brown, yellow, red, white… It doesn’t matter. If you pull a gun a on cop, you are going to get shot.
