Blackberry to iPhone (yay or nay)?

I’ve used a BB for as long as I can remember & now that my Curve is on it’s last leg (just took another hit today) I’m weighing my options.

Those I know who have an iPhone love it, but given the amount of e-mail I do on the BB, I’m not overly confident in the use of a touch screen…granted, I have a somewhat tainted perspective on the touchscreen as the BB Storm was an absolute piece of sh#t - I understand the iPhone touchscreen is night & day vs the Storm.

Anyway, just curious if anyone has moved from a BB to an iPhone & would you recommend it. Thanks!

I moved from a blackberry to an iphone. I would never go back. Touch screen doesn’t take long to get used to, and now with Siri, you can even speak your emails or text.

My 13 year old son and college age daughter have an iPhone. So if you are tween or a girl, then the iPhone is perfect. Otherwise be a real man and use the BB. I have the workhorse 9700, and would move up to the Storm if I wanted the touch screen.

I like the touchscreen keyboard better than the itty-bitty keys on the Blackberry. Especially the touchscreen in landscape format. I didn’t expect that to be the case when I first tried an iPhone two iterations ago. Recently moved from the iPhone 3GS to the 4S instead of going back to Bberry.

Of course, if you have little girly thumbs, I guess the Bberry keys are OK.

Time to move into the 21st century…I know how you feel. I was where you are now last spring…I promise it will not hurt and you will like it better.

x2. Might consider trying an Android phone at some point though.

i went iphone to droid…and now back with iphone…so much better

The storm’s touchscreen is awful. No really. Awful.

That’s the thing, the main thing I need it to function well is to be able to send/receive e-mail & text as my entire life revolves around this. I know the iPhone’s other capabilities far exceed the BB, but it’s the e-mail function that is my primary concern.

Couldn’t agree more. The Storm was the worst phone I’ve ever owned. I was actually happy when I left on the top of my car after a long ride and it went flying onto the freeway at 65 mph.

I still have a blackberry but that’s just because I have no choice - it’s all the company offers. But if I had to buy my own phone, I would never ever get an BB. It would Iphone, then a droid of somekind, then a tin can with wires, and then if I had to a BB.

Get a BB Torch, preferably the newest one. I have one and its great. Same old high quality email and the new OS is surprisingly good. I changed from the analog keyboard of a curve?? to this touch screen and it took a bit to get used to. My model of torch has the slide out keyboard as well. I don’t use it anymore, that’s how good the touch screen is. Iphone = grab-assery!

Not sure what the problem would be. iPhone supports POP/imap/exchange/google/yahoo/etc etc etc. Also texting is SOO much more organized on the iPhone. And the iPhone isn’t subject to outages because the blackberry network is down.

And X2 on the blackberry touchscreen is terrible. Push through touch screens sounded neat, but have become a huge flop.

According to market share numbers for Oct, iOS has 61.64%, blackberry has 2.48%**. There is a reason.

I have a torch, I like the keyboard but I find typing on an ipad touch screen crappys so take my input with a grain of salt.

I recently went from a Bold to an Android phone. If you want to run a lot of cool apps and have a fun toy, then make the change. If you just want to check email or text and calandar, especially if you are tied to enterprise email, I think the blackberry is still easier and faster to use. I like my new phone and don’t plan to go back, but as a business tool I’d probably have to give the nod to blackberry.

I use it for work emails everyday Bri and it’s fine. If i can use that keyboard anybody could. I’m not the best typist around. I’m getting the 4S in a few weeks. I love the Siri app and I will use that on the fly everyday. Iphone is my vote.

Android

Brian,

FWIW I had an old Curve (8330) that I really liked but the software was way out of date and it was crashing on a fairly regular basis (battery pull every day or two). When I was looking to upgrade I looked at an Android device and an iPhone but really like having a physical keyboard so that ruled out the iPhone and although I like Android, my wife has an Android phone and I had an Android tablet and both worked most of the time but not as reliably as even my Curve that was crashing on a regular basis.

I was debating between the Torch (9800) and Bold (forget which model but before the OS7 devices came out) and I went with the Torch. I really like the touch screen for everything but typing and also like the larger screen as it makes it easier to view websites on my phone. Having played a bit with the new OS7 phones, I’m not sure if I would go with the touch screen Bold or new Torch but both seem like great devices, especially for anyone who likes a physical keyboard.

Does that stuff work really well? I have been and still am a BBerry guy. I like that tactile feel of the buttons and can type without looking at the screen sadly…wish I didn’t use it that much. BUT if I could have an e-Beeeatch to take dictation I might just take a look.

Read about a battery issue potentially with the new iPhone. Anyone verify this?

do it.

I’m in the process of making this decision for about 200 people. Most people are pretty mature about it but there are about 5 people here who have made it very clear they will kill me if they don’t get their iPhone so its looking like choice is going to come to our phone program. It wasn’t that long ago that the iPhone was completely inappropriate for a corporate environment, mostly because of security and partly because they were a PITA to hook up to a corporate email system but that has totally changed.

Personnally, I am torn. I’d love an iPhone for everything except email but I do alot of email.
