I initially wanted to get an iPhone, but am not willing to switch providers…looking at the world edition of the blackberry for verizon…
Any input can be provided? pros, cons?
my input: they still work if you submerge them in the toilet. how can you not love that?
May I ask how come you know that?
Well, this is a funny story. And let’s hope no one from my IT dept checks here…
So, we have work-issued Blackberries that I use in and out of the office. On this particular day, I happened to be coordinating a big presentation and was running all over the office - a bit scattered and stressed out.
I finally had to take 2 seconds to stop and go to the bathroom. It didn’t occur to me that my Blackberry was in my back pocket and I’d already pulled down my jeans and ejected my Blackberry straight into the toilet. The case sort of cracked open along the seam as it hit bottom and it started to short circuit, which sent it into non-stop ‘vibrate’ mode.
so, i am alone in the bathroom in my stall with this BB that won’t stop vibrating - even after I fish it out of the water. and then someone comes in to the bathroom and i hear her walk in and stop dead… and there is a very suspicious vibrating sound coming from my stall that i can’t stop!
I rip the battery out to get it to stop and mumble something about ‘it’s not what it sounds like’ and flee with my dripping blackberry in hand. I opened it up and dried it out over the weekend and - wonder of wonders - it worked again!!!
Happily ever after. The end.
Hmmm, my “BB that drank the coffee” died. Of course, the coffee wasn’t mentioned to IT.

This could only happen to you, Elaine, and Grace.
Check out www.blackberryforums.com Active forum for berry users. The new 8800 with gps is very cool (rumors are that Verizon may disable the gps in some units). The curve (8830) does not have gps but does have a camera. Out soon is the 8820 - this will have gps and wifi.

Ohhhhhhhhhh… that’s so hot!
so that’s why they call it the crackberry!
I’ve been using a Blackberry for about 2 years and I was issued a Verizon BlackBerry “world phone” about 2 months ago. It’s sweet - a huge improvement.
Pros:
real time push email; great phone; great screen; powerful yet small enough to squeeze into a pocket; fool proof interface; long battery life, fast web access, can use as a wireless laptop modem for an additional $15 per month fee
Cons
hard to come up with cons - a little harder to synch up calendar and contacts with a PC than a Treo for an individual user (but if you’re employer supports BlackBerries with an enterprise server, the BB is the way to go); not much in the way of 3rd party software compared to a Treo; identifies you as a corporate slave; highly addictive
