It seems like the Bills’ fate often came down to a one pivotal play here and there that swings a game – Allen missing an open receiver, or making a winning run, or benefiting from a dubious pass interference call… Either could have made a different outcome. And none of those should be on McDermott, good or bad.
However, if there’s a systematic issue that indicates no progress (I’m looking at NYG’s GM selections), then that warrants a change.
But as coach, you’re the leader of the team so it is on you. I think it’s partly due to him not being able to rein back Wannabe Superman Josh when more than good enough Josh should’ve won games instead of trying to be the hero.
Agree. I’m just waiting to see if the Titans really are going to hire Matt Nagy (reported) or will they continue to do stupid things. If their GM (ex-Chiefs) can get past the stupidness of their owner, they may be a decent team in the future.
Maybe Roger could put all of the head coaches names into a hat at the end of the year and pick one out random style so every team gets a new head coach every year. That might be fun.
My question is.. who out there that’s available is a step up? McDermott has his flaws as does every head coach. I think this move is knee-jerk and borderline terrible. Promote Beane to president, the guy who can’t put WRs on the field for Josh. But there too, Beane is good at his job. Should have left things in place. This isn’t a systematic failure in Buffalo. This is the NFL and playoffs are tough. You keep making it and giving yourself chances. I don’t know.
Ordinarily I’d be in 100% agreement with that. With Tom Brady as a minority owner now, I’d hope Mark Davis steps back some and let’s smarter heads prevail.
