Bjorn's Behind Saddle Hydration System

What is that? From IMNZ '04.

Tacx, I have one. I like them better than the Saddlewing because it sits lower on the saddle and I can swing my leg over it no problem when dismounting.

Unbelievable drop isn’t it???

On Bjorn’s bike I mean

I found it myself. TRI Sports carries them:

Do you know if this works for the Arione Tri?

My Saddlewing won’t work and I’m looking for a replacement

The saddlewing works with the Arione Tri. Are you having trouble mounting?

That is almost identical to the original Profile off the back system. The major problem (and probable reason for changing up to the Aquarack) was that they has a nut and bolt pivot point adn the junction of the saddle mounting plate and the ribbed section leading to the cage support. This was extremelt difficlut to tighten as the bolts were recessed into the moulded plastic unit and led to the unit pivotting and dropping!

Yep this is definitely a problem with the Tacx, especially if you want to put the weight of two bottles back there. One way to eliminate the problem is drill a small hole through the joint, off center of the pivot point. Then install a bolt and nut through this hole. The bolts for the main joint holds the thing together, while the “custom” bolt maintains the desired position.

Yes, however you will have to trim a little bit of the plastic away. Once the battery in my camera charges I can send a detailed picture.

NOTE: The above issue with Tacx maintaining position does not apply when using with the Arione Tri. Because of the Arione’s long tail the Tacx will only mount in its most laid back position (even when trimmed), so it can’t slip down any further. Due to the fact that the bottles will be “laid back”, I also recommend using an aluminum bottle cage that you can bend in to hold your bottles a bit tighter than they would otherwise.

Have you tried the frame mounts? Many bikes have a very simple, functional and elegant solution for carrying water bottles.

I’ve used one of those before…It broke in no time. The pivot point is a weak spot. If you tighten it to stop the thing from slipping down…it’ll break. Trust me…it SLIPS alot!!

Some bikes only have frame mounts for a single cage (Cevelo P3 and Dual I believe are a couple examples). Some times it is nice to carry more than one bottle.

Agreed. That’s whay I said “many” bikes and not all.

Perhaps it should be a buying decesion making factor then.

As for carrying more liquids. Behind the seat holders are an option, but they seem to be a fussy and problematic solution. Not something that I would personally suggest, but that’s just me.

I installed a Minoura behind the seat upside down so that the bottles face backwards instead of upright. It could look a little cleaner and it will shortly. I use smaller bottles when riding, these are for example.

I am starting to think that looks stupid.

I think its a great idea as long as the bottles stay put. I use the Minoura the standard way for any race longer than a sprint but when I do I find that I don’t have the guts to do a running cyclocross mount with it on because of the height. If it works, who cares how it looks!!!

Holy smokes Batman!! You have liquid powered rocket boosters!!! (That’s what a roadie told me after seeing my saddle wing with the X-Nut (CO2 holder))

This setup doesn’t work. The bottles fall out. I’ll try the TACX and if all else fails, I use the Minoura standard setup. The XLab stuff si too heavy for me.

Too bad the Profile Design aqua rack doesn’t work on Cervelo’s with aero seat posts.
