"April 5 (Bloomberg) – Former President Bill Clinton has earned $15.4 million from billionaire Ron Burkle’s Yucaipa Cos. investment firm since 2003, according to tax documents released by his wife, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
The earnings represent 20 percent of the approximately $75 million Bill Clinton earned during the same period, according to the documents. That may raise new questions about what services he performed for Los Angeles-based Yucaipa, whose investors include the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al- Maktoum.
Tax lawyers said the Yucaipa partnership income for Bill Clinton looks to be a form of salary because it was in round numbers for most years. "
And Hillary funds her own campaign with millions. FOllow the money.
I am trying to understand the connection between your response and the poster’s original comment. The only connection I can come up with is that the federal government under Clinton also awarded billions in no bid contracts to Halliburton. Is that your point?
Wow. Moral equivalency. How original. So this excuses sleaze and unsavory (and possibly unethical) behavior? Billary is running for the presidency. Don’t you have the least bit interest in finding out what it is that’s given them the resources to get where they are?
Due respect is paid, in part, by actually answering questions.
Did I guess your connection correctly or did it have nothing whatever to do with the original post?
I don’t have a problem with Bill Clinton’s recycling petrodollars back to this country for services rendered. Dubai is not a security risk. This is not like Schroeder going on Putin’s payroll the day after he leaves office in Germany.
I will observe that Dubai doesn’t seem to be getting their money’s worth given how the Port deal was destroyed, but they have plenty of other deals and that is their problem.
**with all due respect to yourself and Art, i don’t recall either of you putting quite as much effort in to the same exercise when GWB was running… **
I recall us answering the queries about GWB in full, and pointing out a number of flaws in the Democratic attack upon him. You seem only to be trying to say that this devil (“Billary”) is somehow less of a devil just because some other offense done by some other devil (in your opinion) was the greater.
Better that you give a defense of the fact that Billary received these monies instead of hurling a counter-accusation that tries to change the subject.
What’s the problem? My gosh, Bill Clinton got paid by an investment company run by a Democratic activist and fundraiser; the ruler of Dubai happens to be an investor in that company. If that isn’t treasonous, I just don’t know what is.
You aren’t implying that money has influence in politics, are you?
Unabashed scum. That’s an impressively bombastic statement.
George HW Bush is now a vice-chair at Carlyle Group, a similar entity to Yucaipa, of which the Bin Ladens were an investor.
Dan Quayle is a vice-chair at Cerberus, another similar entity. Al Gore has held similar positions.
Let me educate you here. These are investment entities, where the general partner invests capital on behalf of partnership, composed of a bunch of limited partner, such as pension funds, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, wealthy individuals, etc. People who work for the general partners, such as Burkle or Clinton, do work for the partnership overall, rather than any particular individual investor. But its certainly possible he may have done so upon some particular request. The idea that he was paid salary doesn’t really tell us anything other than Burkle paid him to do work for the GP.
Would this make GHWB and Quayle scum as well? Because if we pull up their investor lists, I’m quite certain we can find some names that might be politically unpalatable.
“I’m quite certain we can find some names that might be politically unpalatable.”
Good luck to ANYONE accepting money from ANY major corporation or LP trying to avoid ties to “politically unpalatable” names…it is simply not possible.
" and calling it “a dubai company” is a little disingenuous, isn’t it?"
It’s disingenuous and silly, seeing as how Dubai (just one of several emirates in the UAE) is one of the most progressive, diverse, and Westernized parts of the Middle East and is certainly no threat. You might as well try to make a story about the Clintons getting paid for consulting services by Sweden.
The idea that he was paid salary doesn’t really tell us anything other than Burkle paid him to do work for the GP.
This will be a general response to certain responders:
I don’t recall expressing "outrage’, just that Clinton is scum. For many reasons.
Receiving as “salary” would suggest that he is doing, or is expected to do something. From the Mark Rich pardons, we know the kinds of “somethings” he does.
Just because others do it doesn’t make it right–for any of them. But the Clanton Gang always seem to push the envelope. Doesn’t the fact that major members of their own party are turning on them tell you that people “in the know” have had enough of them?

Oh, no, you just happened to want to call her scum right after innocuously posting some info about their tax returns. Totally unrelated. No outrage there.

What a crock.
Hnest, they don’t outrage me. They are just scum.
x3. it’s what monk said earlier, the Clinton’s always push the envelope. all ex-presidents get money for speeches and stuff but $100 million??? it just seems dirty.
