Bill DeBlasio's New York

How do scams like this flourish? Wonder if 42nd street will be full of peep shows, hookers and porn shops by the end of his term. Maybe an annual leather parade like they have in San Francisco

For the record, I couldn’t care less. I think there are more important crimes to enforce.

Wonder if 42nd street will be full of peep shows, hookers and porn shops by the end of his term.

You make it sound like this this a bad thing.

What could be a more authentic tourist experience than buying a fake Rolex and getting scammed at three card monte? Just make sure you stop at Katz’s for some good eats.

I love your trolling, when in doubt find the nearest Democrat and blame the whole situation on him.
If you have a problem with it, how about blaming the police? It’s not like the mayor should have to personally tell the police that card sharks on city streets might be illegal. I would expect that the police would have either tased them or choked them out by now, since at least in the pictures they were all black.

Cops are too busy busting dudes for selling cigs. Losing out on cigarette tax revenue is a bigger crime to DeBlasio’s admin than card games whose victims are ordinary folk.

Deblasio feels that 3 card monte and other quality of life crimes should not be enforced. The city is lost and it all starts at the top. Crime is coming back and the city will return to the dark ages.

It’s not about republican or democrat, it’s about bad policy making and losing the city. NYC will be in the gutter before his term is up…if he lasts the full 4 years.

The stores where Garner was selling his untaxed cigs had complained numerous times bc their legit business was being effected. Cops reapond to a complaint and surprise! It’s Garner who had been arrested 30 times for the same offense. A known criminal in the pct. A petty crime yes, but something that had to be dealt with based on the requests of store owners in the pct.

Why resist arrest for untaxed cigarettes? It’s only a crime punishable by a fine issued by the judge upon arraignment with an ROR…unless you have multiple arrests for the same crime and out on bail with pending trials.

I have 4 friends currently living in NYC who are moving out because of what’s happening. 3 of them voted for DeBla.

No doubt those three will move to an area run by conservatives and try to vote them out.

They should enjoy the spoils of their mayoral win? Why leave now, the city is only starting to slide.

Why leave now, the city is only starting to slide.

They can see what’s coming (but for whatever reason can’t see what’s causing it).

What are you a mormon or something;)

I agree NYC has improved the quality of life by reducing crime. However, the way they have done it is bordering on
infringement of people’s civil rights. I am willing to accept a little more crime to ensure there is no question about
having full personal liberty.

Armed robbery, assault, murder and rape and very different from gambling and prostitution. I am aware of the “broken window” theory of
law enforcement, but “vice” crimes like prostitution and gambling are highly subjective (the legality of both is jurisdictional and has varied
temporally), whereas breaking windows (i.e. vandalism) and shake downs (squeegee guy) have always been recognized as crimes and
should be enforced.

All I am saying is now that NYS is going to have legalized casino’s and they are all over the northeast already and
prostitution is legal in Montreal, I think only busybody puritans or Republican ballwashers are going to be complaining about Diblasio’s take on law enforcement.

I also have no opinion of DiBlasio’s running of the city, I am only speaking about the police state in NYC that started under Giuliani and most recently
led to choking the cigarette guy.

FYI, Montreal is a cess pool of political corruption.

FYI, Montreal is a cess pool of political corruption.

I have no basis to disagree, because I just don’t know.

What does political corruption have to do with the legality of prostitution there?
If anything the legality should reduce corruption, because if it is above board, there
is no stream of illicit money and/or the need for payoffs.

You might want to add the NYPD Police Union to that list (who 's membership is neither puritan nor republican).

The are just ballwashers, as in they will be ballwashers for any politician willing to put up with whatever schenanigans the union is trying to push (pensions, disability pensions, no oversight of policing).

What has been kind of lost in the recent back and forth by the union and “blood on Diblasio’s hands” is that the Patrolman’s union currently has no contract. I mean there is no way the union would be trying to take advantage of a situation to try to make Diblasio look bad and get leverage on him to cave into their demands. They have had no contract for the last 4 years. The only reason I can see that they are holding out is for an administration willing to cave to their demands and grant a lot of backpay (retroactive raises) for the period they have worked without a contract. I guess Diblasio was not the mayor they were hoping for.

As the little crimes have increased so have the bigger ones that destroy neighborhoods which were on the uprise.

The police state you talk about is a bullshit cop out for any super left liberal. The entire stop question and frisk era was brought on by the ACLU bc they wanted to know who was being stopped. Before that, no records, statistics or IDs were required during police encounters. All of a sudden stats are kept, crime goes down and the police are the bad guys.

You can’t have it both ways. NYC is too over populated and every person is looked at as a mark for non-violent criminals and I know this bc I have debriefed or interrogated 1000s of violent and non violent criminals. Maybe you are willing to live in a city where it’s ok for crime to go up but ask the people of that area of they are ok with being potential victims every time they walk out the door bc nothing is being done to the predators on every corner.

It’s not that long ago that you could not walk on 42 street unless you were shady but now it’s like Disney World with all of the lights and tourist attractions.

I guess we disagree. I don’t consider demanding that Constitutional rights be considered sacrosanct is “super left liberal”, I consider it being a fucking American.

Crime has steadily been decreasing in the US for the past 30 years and this trend started long before Giuliani started his policing policies. If you aren’t willing to even discuss that the pendulum has swung too far, then I can only deduce you consider continuous incremental increases in police power are acceptable. I invite you think about where that will eventually lead.

In the 1950s, if you believed the fearmongers the US was about to overrun by Communist infiltraters, now we are supposed to be afraid of the criminals and terrorists, even though crime is at multidecade low and we have 2 million incarcerated.

I’m sorry, but when we are killing our own citizens with drone attacks, recording information about everyone’s phone calls, giving surplus armored vehicles to police departments, search and seizure is out of control and police are gang choking petty criminals on the street, so I think it is pretty reasonable to consider the possibility that we are more likely to be victimized by law enforcement than by a criminal.

Where do you live? If it isn’t in a major metropolitan area where you have to deal with this type of shit every day, my advice to you is STFU poser.

You stats are off, just look at the number of complaints there are where people are victims of crimes, petty or serious- a victim is a victim. Compare that to the number of complaints against police.

Petty criminal or not, a criminal is a criminal and this country has laws. If the crime was so petty why not put your hand behind your back and take the fine on the chin knowing that you have gotten away with it for so many days. When police respond to sonething, they are doing so because there is a complaint. And if you want to go to the facts of the Garner case you do know that he dies from positional asphyxia, asthma, and a heart condition. Also, he died an hour later at the hospital, not on the street from being choked. There was no damage to his windpipe or larynx as believed by so many poorly informed protesters.

You can live in a society with no laws but I’m not willing to let that happen. The statistics are scewed, and protests are based on these stats and lies as to what actually happened in all these cases.

We can disagree and that’s fine, you can scream and yell in my face all you want when you are standing in the protests yelling for “equal rights and free iPads” and I will stand there and take it bc it’s your constitutional right. If this really was a police state and constitutional rights were being taken away, those protests would not have made it one block or more then 1 day. Criticize away as you chant for dead cops.

New Yorkers have a habit of electing extremes. They elected Giuliani to clean up decades of liberal mismanagement. Then a tyrant who used the existing structure after the the cleanup to create a massive nanny state which got us to where we are per-deblasio. The fatigue and overreach of that nanny state ushered in a much needed change but it came in the form of a socialist radical with fantastical ideas that are complete bs. You can’t come in and just change it overnight without some blowback. This is the largest political machine outside the federal govt. you also don’t vilify people who work for you and not expect some problems.

I dont agree with stop and frisk as a policy. But there is a lot of good policy between stop and frisk and where deblasio would like it to be.

I believe it comes in the form of transparency and civilian oversight.

Criticize away as you chant for dead cops.

As the father of a daughter whose college and career path (theater) requires that she live in NYC, I GREATLY appreciate all of the efforts of the NYPD. Thank you.
