Bill Cosby

Looks like the number of accusers is up to 10.

Holy crap, looks like Mr Huxtable isn’t the great-american dad after all.

I predict something like the syringe in pepsi hoax. One person makes a claim and then others follow looking for money.

Maybe there is legitimacy to some of these stories but I suspect most of these women want money. As far as I have seen none of these women came public until far down the line. It seems improbable that a man (even as powerful as Cosby) can rape 10+ women and none of them filed a police report.

The allegations of sexual assault against him have been floating around for years. I agree that some of these women may be making false claims, but there have been enough stories over the years to raise credible concern.

The comedy skit he did about spanish fly doesn’t sound quite as funny as it did a few decades ago.
In light of the recent allegations perhaps the routine was prophetic or a first hand account of his activities.

The first one I ran into was a story from a women from 1976. Apparently Bill Cosby took her back to his hotel room after a show. HE showed her three pills and told her to take them. She admits she had no idea what they were, what they would do to her or anything and took them anyway. She then remembers having sex with him as an “Assault”.

She never reported it for a number of reasons and then took 30K in payments in 2005 from Cosby.

Now I do not want to get into a no consent argument or “Blaming the victim” but the above story strikes me as very odd and to some extent has to boil down to blaming the victim. It reminds me of my kid complaining that the dog bit him right after he taunts the dog, lays on the dog etc etc. Yep the dog should never bite anyone under any conditions but my kid shouldn’t do stupid shit that makes it highly likely that the dog will bite him.

The above doesn’t say anything about the the other ten accusers, just that this was the first one I came across.

The RollingStone brief article I read mentioned one of the accusers dates back to a 1969 incident.

Most of the ones I read about all say he drugged them first.

I hope there is actual proof somewhere though to back these up, becasue some of this stuff is from very long time ago.

Most of the ones I read about all say he drugged them first.

I’m struggling with the “He drugged them” part. Dropping something into someones drink when they don’t know about it is “Drugging them”. The person taking the drugs voluntarily is them drugging themselves. This would be like a person claiming “He drunked me” about a person who bought them drinks and they drank them.

It’s just weird. I don’t get why anyone would take an unknown anything from a person and especially while alone with them in a private room when you don’t even really know them. It most certainly does not excuse his behavior, but if they were all drugged, voluntarily, we really don’t even know what his behavior was do we? Again, it’s just weird and once again I don’t get people.

A number of these women were part of a confidential settlement back in the 80s (I think, maybe early 90s). Their stories are consistent with decade’s old reports and investigations. Not sure there is a market for them to make money off of this.

I don’t know, offering a woman drugs for the purpose of incapacitating her so that she can be sexually assaulted would seem to fit the definition of rape. Did she put herself in a dangerous situation? Yes. Did she make a dumb decision in taking the drugs? Yes. Does that excuse the rape? No.

Put another way, even though you might be super charming and able to get a woman back to your hotel room and give her drugs, that does not give you permission to have sex with her without her consent. You’ve deliberately created a situation where the woman is vulnerable; you don’t get to now say that because she allowed herself to be put in the vulnerable situation, she deserves to be raped.

When I talk to my daughter about things like this, I always tell her to try to avoid dangerous situations - late night parties, lots of drunk guys, etc. That’s just common sense. However, if she does end up in this situation and is assaulted, I would hope she is brave enough to report it to the police.

So if I buy you drinks and get you passed out drunk I can have my way with you?

I don’t know, offering a woman drugs for the purpose of incapacitating her so that she can be sexually assaulted would seem to fit the definition of rape.

Don’t believe I’ve made a judgement on whether it was rape or not. Nor do I know whether or not the drugs “Incapacitated her” or had an effect more like alcohol, rather over consumption of alcohol prior to completely passing out. Drugs and alcohol have the tendency of making one less inhibited. It is quite possible that the intent was not to incapacitate but to lower inhibitions. Again I don’t know.

Did she put herself in a dangerous situation? Yes. Did she make a dumb decision in taking the drugs? Yes. Does that excuse the rape? No.

Again I don’t believe I ever said it did, but I also think jumping to the conclusion that it was rape or even assault at all seems odd under the conditions. We have a person that willingly without any persuasion went to the person room and did so alone. They then took, voluntarily unknown drugs.

Put another way, even though you might be super charming and able to get a woman back to your hotel room and give her drugs, that does not give you permission to have sex with her without her consent.

I think consent is where the real grey area is and usually is. When is consent given and at what point? Does one have to be completely sober, have it written into a contract, specific words verbalized under specific conditions. Again I’m not saying this is or isn’t rape I’m saying that, to me, going to a persons room, voluntarily taking drugs, is some level of indication of consent. It’s CLEARLY not a no. IT may not be clearly a yes, but again it’s in that grey area of somewhere in between. Certainly no means no, but in the case I read about there was no “No”. Also clearly if the person is completely unconscious, something that I do not know to be the case, that does not allow the person to say no.

You’ve deliberately created a situation where the woman is vulnerable; you don’t get to now say that because she allowed herself to be put in the vulnerable situation, she deserves to be raped.

No one deserves to be raped, it’s the grey area of consent that is always the problem in these situations. Rape can only occur if their is a clear violation. I’m saying that going to someones room, alone, taking drugs etc etc is not a very clear signal of “No” and leans pretty heavily toward “Yes”. Taking the drugs voluntarily without any care of what the drugs will do to you says “I don’t care what the drugs do to me”. While that does not clearly say “Have sex with me” it clearly does not say “Don’t have sex with me”.

When I talk to my daughter about things like this, I always tell her to try to avoid dangerous situations - late night parties, lots of drunk guys, etc. That’s just common sense. However, if she does end up in this situation and is assaulted, I would hope she is brave enough to report it to the police.

I would say this is a completely different situation. Being alone in a room with someone, purposefully, voluntarily and without duress and then voluntarily taking a drug of unknown content is not “Accidentally ending up in a bad situation that resulted in an assault”.

Being at a party with drunk guys and being raped is not, going on a date with a guy, making out with the same guy, getting drunk, going to his car alone, getting naked and then claiming you were assaulted because you can’t remember exactly what happened because you were drunk.

So if I buy you drinks and get you passed out drunk I can have my way with you?

If I barely knew you, went back alone with you to your hotel room, you handed me some drugs and I took them…yes I’m taking some, maybe most of the responsibility if you did take advantage.

Me passing out at a bar or you getting someone so drunk AT a bar and then carrying them to your room is not the same thing.

A girl getting drunk at a party and passing out is not a girl relatively sober, going to guys room, then getting more drunk and then having sex.

I believe having sex with a passed out person, under almost all circumstances is rape. But furthermore, the one story I read said she remembered having sex with him, that is not passed out.

When people accuse someone for a crime decades after it happened, when the accused cannot defend themselves, and there is no real evidence to prove or disprove the accusation other than words, my bull stuff meter starts to twitch. When the person being accused is a celebrity or “deep pockets” sort, the meter goes to “probably BS”. When the accused just happens to be someone standing up for morality, common sense or especially conservative values, the BS meter bangs into the limit peg and stays there.

Considering at least one “victim” continued to visit Cosby after the purported crime covered, the chances that the accusations are true are pretty darn slim in my opinion. Nevertheless, the media and glitterati will convict Cosby without a pesky trial to interfere with their attempts to discredit one of the few black celebrities that stands up to the thugism that is glorified in rap music and popular media.

consider the climate of decades past - it was not so simple as a victim to stand up particularly if you knew the person - invariably it was victim blaming.

i was 14 when I was raped and did not tell anyone until I was 19. When I told my mother she said “you were a savvy kid how did you get yourself in that position”

So if I buy you drinks and get you passed out drunk I can have my way with you?

Dude. Come on. In fraternity houses and dorm rooms all over America, young women enter the rooms of young men they really do not know and drink themselves to the point they cannot knowingly willingly consent. Never, ever, is that permission or consent to have sex.

Especially with the new Title IX regulations!

If you’re having sex with someone who is damn near comatose and not participating you’re a rapist.

I think our media’s attempt to try people on the news vs. in a court of law has become way out of hand. We the audience of the news shows are feed one side of the story and are meant to make up our minds about people based on incomplete facts. Also as previously pointed out these are events that are decades old and not exactly sure what the statute of limitations is on these types of allegations which is what we all need to keep in mind — they are merely allegations and he has not been tried in a court of law.

Americas first super model is one of the women, and she so as much told Howard stern in 06 when she was promoting a new book. Publishers told her to take that part outstanding the time. Have a listen, no doubt she thought him a total scumbag.

Ya, because drugging girls and then raping them is just the same as having consensual sex.

You must be on hell of a rapist yourself I bet…
