Anybody ever got a MTB from Bikesdirect.com
Seen some sub $600 full suspension bikes there that I might be interested to buy for my teenagers.
They aren’t heavy duty MTB’ers (yet), so I don’t think they mind a lesser quality bike.
So, the question…are these junk or good price/quality.
I promise to buy better bikes if I see my kids getting really hooked by the sport.
The prices can’t be beat, but the 12 year old doing the welds could use more training. One of my friends got one of the Motobecane Ti MTB’s a couple years ago and had to take it to a welder immediately to finish the two missing welds on the frame. After that it was a great bike. Good price, spotty quality.
Fwiw… I picked up a cross bike from them for cheap because I didn’t know if I would like cross but worse case I had a decent winter bike to beat on. If you research things you tend to find that the bikes have great components… I got full ultegra… But weak frames…I can stand the pedals and flex the chain right off the big ring… Fortunately in cross I’m never out of the small ring haha!
Now that I found the love for cross I’m looking to swap all my nice components to a better frame. They do take some work to put together too… Easy if you know a thing or two about bikes but if not there is that to consider. Overall I was happy given the price.
I’ve purchased a high end ti 29er MTB from them a couple yrs ago, no problems at all. Very good quality all around and the price cannot be beat.
Some folks will actually buy the bike, strip the parts, sell the frame then dress a high end frame with the take offs…
Have no experience with their lower end stuff.
I am waiting on a Fat bike that is due in Feb.
A friend got a MTB from them, the suspension design isn’t the most responsive, and they are heavy but it probably would be a great buy for kids looking to get started, cause they will outgrow them in no time! I got a road bike from them some years back, the components are mostly all name brand, with a few equivalent parts instead of the ones mentioned in the ad.
