What would you think of a guy who would make fun of another bike rider for having a wreck only a month after he himself had one? Would you like to have a guy like that in your bike club?
Depends on the situation…depends on how the crash happened …if you cant laugh at life what can you laugh at?
I don’t think it is ever right to make fun of someone that *wrecks *their bike. But if the person didn’t unclip and *fell *over I don’t think I could help but at least snicker.
Don’t worry, he’ll be on the deck soon enough. What comes around goes around, especially when It come to crashing, and usually the laugher goes first.
It’s usually not too cool to make light of someone else misfortune.
Even if the guy making fun of the other guy is a multimillionaire who drives an SUV and rides a Serotta Ottrot?

For those of us who have been riding long enough that we pre-date clipless pedal systems and had no one to teach us how to use them when they first hit the streets - these days anyone who has yet to suffer the indignity of ending up on the ground while unclipping are referred to as “virgins!” I think that there are two kinds of cyclists in this world (although there are always exceptions to the rule), those of us who have already gone down and those that will sometime in the future as everyone at some point will have a crash! Good natured ribbing/joking for someone who has had a mishap should not be a problem. Now if that person has suffered an inordinate number of ungraceful or high speed dismounts lately, then maybe a nickname like “crash”, “biff” or “road kill” would be appropriate?

ASU SUN DEVILS!!!
That’s what I am hoping for in this case.
What if the first guy slides out on some sand on an easy road ride but the 2nd guy wiped out bombing down some gnarly trail on his MTB? Are there different, less embarrassing types of crashes?
You expect crashes offroad but on the road, it’s pilot error.
I hope the guy who crashed on the MTB has a good makeup artist before his speech tonight.
It was definitely in poor taste. I have to admit though, I think it’s pretty cool that both of the gentlemen in question are in fact “bike riders.”
Oh, fer cryin’ out loud. This is absolutely ridiculous. The National Republic is even using this as proof of Bush’s “athletic superiority.” Absurd.
Does it matter, first of all, who’s the better athlete?
Secondly, does anyone here really believe that these athletic displays are genuine, and not the most cyncial sort of media manipulation?
If you really care about any of this, I suggest that you grow up.
What I was referring to is Kerry’s alleged (not denied by his camp) “off the record” comment that GWB needed training wheels–coming right on the heels of a snowboard and a bike wreck of his own!
And the reason I care is that I think this is revealing of the character of the person who may become president.
tri_bri2, I didn’t mean to single you out there- I meant that if *anyone *really cares about the athletic prowess of either Bush or Kerry, or believes that these demonstrations are genuine, they should wake up and join the real world.
As for the comment revealing Kerry’s character, I suppose it does, and to his detriment. It’s such a trivial matter compared to everything else, though, I can’t see that it makes any difference. In other words, if Kerry doesn’t already bother you as a wholly empty suit, I doubt this asinine comment will bother you, either.
I had no idea what you guys were talking about until just now. Is there a news link to the Kerry quote?

It’s pilot error either way … one’s just a lot more fun, is all.
Here’s another link–an interview with another bike-riding politician. Goes beyond bike etiquette into political etiquette. Probably only two things Richard Daley and I will agree on.
