Bike Workstand Dilemma

I have the Park Team Race Stand that looks like this: http://www.parktool.com/images/products/productimages/det_prs20c_200926_26166.jpgMy dilemma is I now have a Specialized Transition that has the rear brake cables exiting from underneath the bottom bracket therefore my stand won’t work anymore. So it looks like I may need a different workstand. Any recommendations. I am under the impression that you should not clamp a carbon top tube. Is this a correct assumption? Any cheap alternatives so that I can easily maintenance my own bike?

I’ll trade you stands!

Just kidding. I use the Ultimate Pro stand and really like it. Clamp it to the seat post (be gentle), and everything will be fine.

The stand is currently on sale at backcountry.com - here’s a link:

I was apprehensive about clamping anything carbon, but all three of my LBS use them, and from what I can see here at ST so do a bunch of folks. Don’t crank on it - tighten it just enough to hold the bike in place - and you’ll be ok.

+1 for Ultimate & clamping the seatpost. I will never buy another workstand.

that’s a pretty good price for that stand; i have one too and
have taken to clamping at the top of the seatpost right at
the saddle clamps, i have a QR Caliente with the seat shuttle
so there’s more clamping space under there. since the seat
hardware is all aluminum, i can clamp pretty tightly without
worrying too much.

At a Trek Store, I saw a hinged piece ( made by one of the aftermarket tools companies, but I can’t remember who) that fits into the workstand vise, and simply holds the carbon seatpost. The guys said they used a dremel and shaped it similar to the seatpost shape. A lot cheaper than a new workstand!

Buy one of these that they make those bars for hitch bike racks so that you can attach odd shaped bikes to them.

And get a normal stand.
