Bike training routes in CDA

My husband is doing IMCDA. I am training for my first tri July 24th. I need to find something roughly 25 - 30 miles while we spend 5 days in the area. Any locals with suggestions about good routes? We are staying at the Resort, but are driving so I can easily get out of the immediate area. Thanks in advance.

Look at the bike course map. The first out and back section runs along the lake. It’s a nice route, there is a path you can ride on or you can stay on the road. There are some rollers, but no real grinders. It’s very scenic.

I appreciate your help. I wasn’t sure I would be allowed on the course on Saturday, but I suppose it’s not a problem for a few hours in the morning. I’m looking forward to the trip. It looks like a beautiful place. Thanks…

Bike on the Centennial Trail and you’ll find it very enjoyable! You should be able to ride 15-20 miles along the lake up until race day.

Enjoy!

I appreciate the help. I’ve been enjoying the cycling around Denver and Boulder, but I’m looking forward to change for a few days.

You might be able to answer a second question. Is there an easily accessible place for an open water swim? It’s not crucial, but it beats the pool.

thanks

The best spot is where the IM swim will be set up. You can participate in the gatorade swim even if your not racing. On Thurs. morning they will have all the bouys set for the race. Last year 3 members of our tri group went over and swam the course for the experience.

Not only can you ride the entire course on Saturday, but you’ll be allowed on the course on Sunday if you want. Just head out after the bike cutoff when it turns into a run course. There were a ton of spectators on bikes last year, none of them pacing their friends or giving outside assistance though

As for the swim, just head down early any day to the Gatorade swim. Not only will you be able to check your belongings for free, but they’ll give you free Gatorade and/or Gatorade waterbottles. You can probably demo an Ironman wetsuit for free as well. You don’t have to be a participant to do any of these things.

Thanks to you both, Tri4 and Thirsty, for excellent information. From a training perspective this trip is getting even better all the time. I’m glad to hear I’ll be able to support him so easily on race day as well. A friend of ours did the race last year and said the community support and course layout were great.

isnt im cda swim set up the mon before or???

I really have no idea. At the latest Wed of Thurs I think.
