Bike trainer skewer?

Can I put my bike on the trainer with my skew that I normally ride with my normal bike, or should I change the skewer each time to the skewer that came with my bike trainer?

Thanks.

you can use your own, but it will get scratched up pretty bad. If you are going to be going back and forth between the road and the trainer, you might want to consider getting a cheap wheel for the trainer.

I change my skewer once the bike is in and up on the trainer for the winter. Once it is nice enough outside to ride again I change it back. I would rather ride outside with the skewer that came with the trainer then eat up the one that came with my bike.

ah…makes sense. Thanks!

I forgot to take the trainer skewer off after the winter and did IMC with the trainer skewer. Is this relevant?

You should probably use a skewer better designed for the trainer, one such as Kinetic sells for their trainer, which is what I use.

Change to the skewer that came with the trainer… It’s really just a regular old steel skewer, most likely, the one you have on your “regular wheel” is aluminum, which will be badly scratched which can weaken the skewer (although I doubt it will break… guess it is theoretically possible though…). Changing the skewer takes all of 30 sec… not a big job…

No… It’s not relevant…

I forgot to change out the skewer on a set of Bontrager training wheels I have. The skewer on the bontragers was pretty small and by the time I noticed I had forgot to change it (a long time), it had more than scratched it, it now has some deep slices in it.
