I was going through some old VHS tapes and came across two clips describing the great technological advancements from 1991 and 1994: http://youtu.be/nZECfQT5ZnI Fun to hear the descriptions.

“They don’t have to waste time picking up a glass of water.” After describing the home-made hydration system.
Edit: And Mark Spitz talking about saving weight on the valve stem while ignoring aeroness is pretty epic as well.
Edit: Oh and thank you for sharing!

That hydration system was actually pretty popular in the early 90’s. It had a latex bladder that you pumped fluid into. I had a friend who filled one with a protein drink, and it heated up and spoiled in transition; he gets on the bike and the bladder explodes sending curdled energy drink all over his legs.
It’s pretty clear that Spitz knows nothing about cycling…kinda funny, equivalent to having LeMond comment on the swim.
