Bike Shop

Our local bike shop is doing very well. I live in a town of 18,000. We have one bike shop. Road biking and triathlon is booming. I know Lance and all the coverage has alot to do with it. Also We have a tuesday crit , Wed. MTB ride/party, weekend long ride and I teach a tri class each year. 22 newbies this year and they all raced : )… The problem the shop is run by the owner only. He sells a lot of bikes. He has decided not to do repairs. He tells people to buy a book he carries and do it themselves. The next shop is 100 miles away. I am afraid the newbies will get turned off when they can’t get their bike worked on. I’m also afraid that when the craize is over the shop will close due to this shop policy. We need a shop and people do back it . He sells alot of clothes also. More info: we have a university 6,000 students, and a military fort “BIG” This adds many biker types.

I just love the biking community and don’t want to see the shop close or people lose interest.

Sounds like an excellent opportunity for someone to set up shop.

Find the best mechanic in the area and help him set up his own “Service Shop” in his basement/garage.

where exactly is this small town?

I sent you a PM
.

I thought bike shops made most of their money off service and soft goods. Pretty tough to survive just selling bikes. What happens when he runs out of customers in your small town? Tell him to think about ongoing cash flow and hire a part time wrench.
