These are some of the shoes worn by some of the top athletes in Kona, I was surprised to see many of them wearing road shoes rather than tri shoes. Sorry about the blurryness of the pics.
Bentley (old school time Equipe road shoes), Llanos (diadora team racer), Lieto (dmt flash), Luke Bell (sidi t 2.6), Macca (sidi genius?), Normann (diadora tailwind), Hellriegel (dmt Breeze carbon tri)
but remember that it s a ironman, the race isnt won in transition, more important to have a shoes with a buckle like the road shoes so when you poor water on you over a 5h days…it s stay very tight on your feet…
i was using the shimano carbon road version…2 strape and 1 buckle.

I realize that it is IMH…from what I have seen most of the Pros transition with the shoes already on the pedals…that is why I say it would be difficult…
yeah…we all had our shoes on the pedal already and it s not any harder to put on a shoes wiht a buckle that one with straps, i would say that after practicing, it s actually faster,… i use them for every distance from sprint, oly him and ironman… and most of the time always have one of the fastest transition.
do you leave the front two straps semi tight and just do the buckle? any tips or tricks? also, what nutrition did you use? I noticed the blue sports drink in your bottle.
the lower strap is done… i never really need it but i live it close… the second on his completly open and i make sure the shoes on the pedal is wide open so i can slide in without using any hands… shoes is attache with elastic to the rear quick release and the other shoes is attache to a elastic to the front bottle cage… so when you jump on your bike…your 2 feet go straight inside the shoes and you are already pedaling hard until you reach speed…then you do both buckle and the strap later on… i guess picture would make it a lot more clear but…ask any ITU guys…they could show it to you… it s the fastest way there is…
nutrition was maltodextrin 500cal/hour all liquid …the blue because i add a bit if gatorida glacier for the taste only
i started with 2 bottle…the one you see as 500 and the rear one as 1000…same mix (malto/gatorade) for both
salt pill(endurolythe) in my pocket in a container of M&M that you can buy at walmart near the cash register… they are the best, you can use them with on hand only and not lose any,
but the best systeme is what Rappstar and Normann have been using…the salt stick systeme inside there profile aerobar…it s nice and even easyer to use…
the problem with saltstick is that you can’t hold many pills. You would definitely need two saltsticks and even then you may not be able to hold enough. how many endurolytes did you take/hour?

Is that why they don’t wear socks? Otherwise, it would seem worth the time to put them on since you’d have to put them on in T2 anyway (well, not HAVE to, but a marathon without socks… no likey that idea).
I have used the same M&M canister thanks to your advice. funny now but not at the time, i was turning right out of the energy lab and had 3 tablets ramaining, but with all the humidity/sweat the last few were stuck in the bottom! i was so delirious i could not think to add water they would pop out. the cramps hit right as i turned down Palani and luckily i was able to cruise in but i could not have much farther. jn
I stand corrected - that is an 05 shoe. In 06 they changed the way the adapter plate was attached (due to the RSX 3 bolt sell out). She is on Speedplay that will attach on the TVT sole with four bolt as easily as the original Time cleat…and thus would have a VERY low stack height as well as the benifit of the 100% flat sole of the Time shoe that makes mounting the cleat a bit cleaner. The 06 sole is black as well.
