Bike shipping for ironman canada

hi there. anyone have any info. for bike shipping to penticton. im coming from the states, sending it from my local shop. thanks! jr

I sent mine via Sports Express…was a bit pricey but convenient. Left it on my doorstep for pick up…got it in my hotel lobby…left it after the race in the hotel lobby and it was home before I got back…no problems…

Was nice not having to lug it to and from the airports…along with other luggage and a two year old. So I felt the extra cash was worth it.

Could do it on your own via UPS or Fed Ex…the Bike shop in Pentictin (Forgot the name off hand) has instructions/directions on shipping directly to the shop…they’ll even pack/unpack and build it up for you for a little extra.

For the first time I am using info@tribiketransport.com they will pick it up at the lbs - for me Campus Bikes in Denver and take it to the race and back. All without taking it apart. They charge $195 round trip so not much more than the airlines but without the packing, toting and repacking hassle. Hope this helps.

The Bike Barn.

The bike barn has their policy regarding international shipping of bikes on their website

IRONMAN SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS

RE: shipping bicycles across the border:

Due to a number of customs complications associated with international shipping and receiving personal b cycles, **The Bike Barn will no longer be able to receive or ship personal bicycles to and from foreign countries for Ironman Canada. **Instead, the Bike Barn will act as a pick up point for bikes that have been shipped. We are able to offer this service to athletes through co-operation with B.D.C., the local international in-bound freight company for UPS and Fed Ex. However, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES USE THE BIKE BARN’S ADDRESS TO SHIP YOUR BIKE. TO AVOID CUSTOMS AND TAX CHARGES TO BOTH YOU AND THE STORE, WE WILL REFUSE ANY BIKES WITH OUR ADDRESS ON THE BOX OR CASE.

Send your bicycle to:

YOUR NAME and address where you are staying in Penticton

Write **“HOLD FOR PICK-UP -PENTICTON” **on the box.

This will get your bike delivered to:

The Bike Barn
Penticton, BC
(250) 492-4140 phone
(250) 492-3152 fax

If you address the bike “Hold for pick-up - Penticton” B. D. C, has agreed to deliver the bicycles to the Bike Barn. Feel free to either come pick up your bike or get in touch with the Bike Barn if you would like to have your bike built up at the shop. **DO NOT WRITE ANYWHERE ON THE BOX the name or address of The Bike Barn or B. D. C. **Allow at least 10 business days when shipping ground and possibly longer if there is a hold up at the border,

When shipping goods across the border, you may be charged customs, brokerage, and GST (goods and services tax), **even though you believe that you have pre-paid all charges. **To avoid these charges you must ship **FREE DOMICILE **and mark **“send charges to shipper” (not “pre-paid”). **You will probably still be charged a customs and brokerage fee, depending on if you ship ground or air, but you will avoid GST, which can be as high as $250.00 Cdn. Any questions regarding this matter should be addressed with your shipper at home or B. D. C. 250-491-7770.

Please check with your shipper. There will be a form that you need to fill out to confirm that this is a personal item intended for personal use, and that it will be returning with you, Include as much detail as possible regarding contents of the box and arrival and departure dates.

The Bike Barn is, as always, happy to assemble, service, and package (after Ironman) your bicycle. **Athletes must then make all return shipping arrangements. **Please call us if you have any questions regarding shipping your bicycle, repairs and maintenance, or bicycle rentals. We would like to make this aspect of Ironman as stress free and cost efficient for you as possible,

We look forward to seeing you in August. Until then, happy and safe training!

Give the bike PLENTY of time to clear customs. Even if you think you’ve done everything right, something will go awry and you’ll have to spend a couple of days on the phone getting it sorted out! Also, the sooner Bike Barn gets your bike the sooner they’ll assemble it. If your bike gets caught in the pre-race rush it may not be ready as quickly as you’d like.

Not only would i give it lots of time to clear customs but i would make sure someone is going to be there to get it…sounds funny but if the shop is closed or you don’t get to the hotel before it does it will be in limbo land and it’s almost automaticaly return shipped to the senders address…

Also don’t be surprised if you use UPS or Fed-Ex that there isn’t a bill waiting for you when you get your bike…as it passes customs theres a fee and then you will pay brokerage on the Canadian side this is why i suspect these bike stores won’t ship anymore…

My advise is to use good old USPS if they’ll take the package size…ship it to the bike store or a friend up here that is convenient…it’s cheaper, just as fast and offers all the same protection/conveniences as the others

It looks like Tribike Transport also ships from the US to IMC.
