Bike rides in Columbia Ill

Hoping that someone can help with some info on the routes near Columbia Ill. I have heard that there are both good flats and some nice climbs and most important very little traffic.

Thanks–Todd

Nice area, I used to ride there over 10 years ago, I can not remember where all I would I went, but you can try this link and see what you come up with. Hope this helps.

Try www.swimbikerunstlouis.com they have weekly rides posted for the area. I believe the Columbia ride is posted. A few years back I lived in South St. Louis County on the other side of the river and used to hit the Wednesday night ride from Columbia. It would get between 20-50 riders back then with it eventually splitting up into smaller groups for a 40 mile ride. The first group used be really tough. I remember once getting shot off the back around 27 or 28 MPH in the flats 15 miles into it and was left in no man’s land alone for the next 20 miles. The Wednesday night ride would meet at a grocery store off the main road you take off of Hwy 255. There is only one hill at the turnaround spot (20 out and 20 back).

Another site to check is www.stlbiking.com for local rides and resources.

Todd,
That’s my training ground…yup, you can ride flats, hills, or any combo from there…

We ride almost every Sunday from the “MarketPlace” grocery store @ 7:30am…there are safe routes that go from 15-100+ miles…what are you looking for and I can sorta guide you to what routes might be best…
