Bike review

I just got a Roadmaster Mt. Fury bicycle. Lets start off with the good points…

  • It has wheels, cranks, a chain, pedals, saddle, frame, brakes and a handle bar.

-When you pedal it goes forward.

-Has real water bottle braze-ons.

-Simple silver and red paint. Only one Roadmaster decal.

-$57.64 at Wal-mart and I borrowed my dad’s employee card for a sweet %10 discount.

Now the annoying parts…

-Mystery shifting. It shift when it feels like it. When I make adjustments the first bump I hit throws everything out of wack.

-“Index shifting” means it clicks but doesn’t really affect shifting.

  • One size, incredibly small. I have jacked the seat post up as high as it can go and pushed the saddle all the way back but still have this wonderful position that makes it look like I am trying to touch my toes.

-Knobbie tires that do not work on pavement or dirt.

-Weight. I am guessing 27 pounds.

-Being that I am way too big for this bike it is unfair to comment on handling but it’s better the slower you go.

So what do I rate this bike? I could easily give it a rating of sub-shitty. Face it is a $50 bike and it does exactly what you think a $50 bike should do. It’s strength is that even with the pain and fustraiton it causes me I can’t help but notice it gets me riding on the road. An hour ride is a suffer fest for all the above reasons but damn it I am back on the road and all the other excuses and stupid decisions of my past float away. This piece of shit is horrible but it is what I deserve right now but I still feel like I don’t deserve the freedom and joy of just riding a bike, any bike.

I give this giantic turd one star. I give the freedom it gives me 5 stars.

Now for the upside. I am looking for a duathlon this fall in the Dallas area. If I find one me, my Mt. Fury and my toasted running shoes are going to make a showing. All Slowtwitchers are welcome to meet me at the race and get a free 3 minutes to give me their best fuck off. Selected Slowtwitchers can RSVP a punch in the gut. A $100 donation to the Challanged Athlets Foundtion gets you a kick to my nads. Slowman, Record and Andypants get a free double bunch to the gut and a double kick to the nads.

This is the best sport peroid.

So are you gonna put a set of Zipp 909’s with dimpled tires and were a aero helemt when you ride that bad ass??

Keep riding.

When you pedal it goes forward.

Whew. I was worried about that one. Sometimes you get one that goes backwards.

One size, incredibly small. I have jacked the seat post up as high as it can go and pushed the saddle all the way back but still have this wonderful position that makes it look like I am trying to touch my toes.

Perfect. Now you can ride in an ST approved aero position

-Knobbie tires that do not work on pavement or dirt.

So where do they work? Sounds like time for an upgrade.

you’re hilarious! (but we already knew that)

if you were closer i’d long term lend out my bianchi brava–but i suspect you’re a bit taller than 5’4.5; and live only 13 or so hour drive away.
it’s the thought that counts, right?

enjoy your single star!
