Bike Repainting Info, Please

I would like to have my P2K repainted to something other than Boring Blue. Can I get some info on painting v powder coating, some sites that do repainting/powder coating, recommendations and an idea about cost?

Don’t get an auto body shop to do it, even if they do nice restoration jobs. Apparently the paint nozzles for a bike frame are different. I had a bike done by an auto body shop and it didn’t work out that well. I was told later to always find somebody who is specialized in bike frames.

maybe you could PM that PaintIt dude that is here, i think he does it for a living
.

Would recommend painitdude highly. He did a great job on my bike.

man, I just checked out paintitdude’s site…damn! those are some spectacular paint jobs! makes me want to repaint my new bike!

As someone who has painted several motorcycles, I can’t really understand this comment. The paint you use will dictate what nozzle you use for your spray gun. The surface you’re spraying has nothing to do with it. The paint, on the other hand, is determined by the surface. However, I can’t see a reason why automotive paint wouldn’t be an acceptable and, in fact, preferable paint to use on a bike frame.

Check out the Texas Disk picture on the website. That is my bike. Probably the only way anything I own will ever show up on the web!!

man, I saw that picture…you must really enjoy that! I’m blown away by the paintjobs. when I was bike shopping I intended to get a custom job…now that I have my new bike (Bianchi), I’m tempted, but kindof don’t want to mess with it. maybe in a year or so–your disk looks great though!

I got my P2K repainted by a local guy and Cervelo wouldn’t send me the frame stickers. They said something about not sending them to anyone but Hottubes, the company from Cervelo’s website. It might just be that they didn’t like my local guy, but you might want to call and ask them. I had to ride a P2K without stickers all year.

looks to me like the guys at paintit don’t bother with decals…all theirs are hand painted…and you’d be hard pressed to tell me you can see the difference from a distance…up close though…you notice they don’t peel off…way better option.

That PaintIt dude kicks ass. And that is my P2K on their home page. It looks so much better in person than in the pictures. Every time I get on my bike I just stop and say, “Damn that looks nice.”
