Bike Pjorn for kids...(not the other way to word it :) )

http://lynskey.blogspot.com/2007/12/lynskey-performance-titanium-tricycle.html

about the coolest X-mas present that I could imagine. I hope by the time my kid is old enough for a tricycle I could afford one of these.

any one know the price tag?

I think this is one of those deals where if you have to ask how much it costs, you can’t afford it. But if you’re going to dream, you might as well dream big. Tim

I’m pretty sure that it comes with a “dad of the year” nomination
.

They made them for years before they sold Litespeed to ABG. But alas, they freaking rock.

looks like litespeed is still making them…850

I wonder what this would cost to buy. Also it would be cool if someone took this design and did it in Aluminum. I would serious consider this for my son in Ti but would not bat an eye to buy one if it was aluminum (cheaper). I like the design.

I wonder if I could get some Zipps for that thing. In any case it is pretty freeking sweet.

I think it was Litespeed that made a custom ti tricycle for John Tomac’s son back in the late 90’s… I don’t remember the details, but at a time when ti was FAR out of range for most people, JT’s kid had a ti tricycle.

I’d rather have one of these:

I believe the first of those tricycles was built around the late 90’s when the Lynskey’s were still running Litespeed. It was built for Bob Roll’s daughter Ruby.

And after a quick search I found this:

So now you know what one would cost.

Probably a few more $$$ than the litespeed, so ~$1K I’d guess…maybe I’ll try to make one myself. Ti is actually pretty cheap, just need to find a parts trike

Cannondale made some in the mid 90’s as well. I remember seeing them in one of their catalogs came in baby blue or pink. I think it was in 94 but I am not 100% on that.

Where is that from? Very cool retro look. I have a son about to turn 2 in Jan and that would be an awesome present for me, I mean him!!! I actually looked for the Litespeed trike when he was born (more to annoy his mother than anything) but couldn’t find any.

Khai,

You have to know someone in Van that can supply me with a tricked out trike for my son. Any suggestions.

Unfortunately you can’t buy one. Sacha White (Mr. Vanilla Cycles) built it for his daughter, and with it won a somewhat controversial 1st prize at the NAHBS a few years back (some builders complained because it wasn’t a bicycle). He went back the next year and won again, silencing any critics and drawing enough attention (as if he didn’t already have tonnes) to put his waitlist into the Richard Sachs league (>5a).

If you’re willing to wait, you can get a Vanilla - but Sacha has not been interested in making more tricycles. Not to mention that by the time you get your turn your kid will be riding a two wheeler. ;-p

The Lynskey trike is $799

Not a litespeed, but I bought my son a Trek trike for $125.00. The thing is indestructible, problem is that his legs did not reach the pedals, even with the seat all the way forward. It now just sits in the basement, brand new! I bought him a 16" bike last summer he is better on that. I have wanted to sell it but cannot find any local buyers. It would be great for the tricycle/beer race in Revenge of the Nerds!

That is cool but kids are much better off on a Laufrad (running bike) than a tricycle because it teaches balance incredibly well and incredibly fast. My daughter was 3 and less than 3 feet tall when she began riding a two-wheeler on her own after spending a couple months on a Laufrad. To learn a two-wheeler, it took about 5 minutes to show her how the pedals worked (she didn’t even know what direction to pedal). She was then able to ride the first time she got on because it is all about balance. Do a search on Laufrad on Utube.

I’m thinking tricycle at 10mos

Yeah, I’ve seen those, also called kinderbikes. you can get the same thing with a regular bike by taking off the pedals…Irondad had a big forgument (forum argument) with someone about a year ago on that very subject…

And yes – it would really be more for me than it would be for him, i’m guessing he’ll need to be quite a bit older to appreciate the attributes of Titanium. I think that it would be neat to have his tricycle (assuming the litespeed version) match my road bike, Litespeed Tuscany with red hubs
