Bike painting

Anyone ever paint a bike? How do you do it? Or is it best left to an expert? Any experts out there?

I’m currently having my old lugged steel classic repainted. Was going to do it myself but took it to a local guy who runs a part time auto body shop out of his garage. He does nice classic auto restoration work as well as regular stuff. I’m only being charged fifty bucks for the frame/fork repainting. Well worth it as then I know the job will be done right.

Have not dealt with them since they built the frames for our team bikes in 1986 but Romic Cycle, now located in Tomball, TX does good work: ROMIC CYCLE CO INC 22806 INDUSTRY LN TOMBALL, TX 77375 281/351-9193
.

These guys are painting my disc right now. I’ve seen their work, and it’s pretty good.

Best left to an expert if you want a really nice job. Basic single color can be done by anyone. Chrome restoration, lug work, masking, or intricate designs are best left to the likes of guys like Joe Bell (number can be found in the back of VeloNews) or CycleArt. Joe Bell does amazing work.

If you have a Kestrel, they a great job restoring and customizing paint also.
