How freely should my crank spin? I didn’t notice if it’s degraded, but it seems awefully slow. Without chain, if I give it a good spin it only rotates 3-4 revolutions before coming to a stop. It’s a cervelo p2sl, with about 200 miles on it. I took it all apart and inspected everything. Looks clean and no visual damage. Just seems like the bearings are tight. Is this common? Is it common cuz it’s new? Is it common cuz the bearings suck? Is there a bigger problem? My 6 year old trek 1000 easily spins 6 to 8 rotations with chain.
Old BB’s were known for wearing out and spinning forever, the larger BB of an external bearing does not spin as well without a load on them, which when there is, less effort than the old inboard BB’s, hence the 2-3 rotations…

Huh? Wearing out? What, you were on Shimano right? I know many people with 20+ year old Campy, Phil Wood, and Mavic BB’s - still riding strong and smooth. External cups were the solution to the problem no one had.
