Why do so many ST’ers freak the funk out when some one posts a pic of a New Frame that is “Similiar” to another out on the market…there is “Always” some yahoo or yahoo’s that state something to this effect, "Yeah, that frame/bike is nice but it is a total rip-off of a P3C or an Orbea, or Planet X…) Seriously who the hell cares if manufacturers incorporate proven designs into their new models…or would you rather just have one frameset on the market with one specific design. Honestly how many new aero dynamic designs can you do with a bike/frame? I’m pretty sure most of them have been exhausted. I think that it is great for the sport when manufactures can incorporate other manufacturers proven designs into something hopefully a bit faster economical, cheaper so everyone can taste the speed. Welp, thought I’d Rant a bit…Flame On.
I don’t get it either. I think that the P3C is an awesome bike and Gerrard should be flattered that there seems to be a lot of similar designs popping up. However, I saw a lot of P3Cs at IMLP last year with a whole pile of spacers on them. It is a bike designed for a specific group of riders and not necessarily the masses (as the price will attest to).
I’m surprised that I haven’t seen a bike porn shot with the Velovie that is advertised on the forum page. It is the same frame as the Planet X which is a tour proven bike and it flashes up at $1299 for the frame, fork and seatpost (how does that price compare to the Planet X?). It looks cool and reasonably aerodynamic and you could add in a Renn disk and Hed Deep front wheel for less money than the P3C … but then it wouldn’t be “ST-approved” and you might not be able to get low enough on the front end ![]()
As an added bonus, a bike like that would be much easier to find in an IM transition zone where there are 250 P3Cs!
I agree. I ride a P3C and saw one of the Ceepo TT Venoms on the Steelhead bike course last weekend. Looked like a really nice bike. Had a nice race wheel set on it also. I wouldn’t trade with the guy, but I like seeing a lot of manufacturers represented in a race. Makes things interesting.
I think that the comments have more to do with how they are manufactured - perhaps all in the same factory, with different badging, than retailers of bikes implementing “proven” engineering designs (however proven they are).
Your points still stand about buying the cheaper version, although manufacturers can play with carbon layups and finishing to change production costs, and therefore quality.
(how does that price compare to the Planet X?)
- pretty badly ! planet x frame / forks / post is going to be at 999 usd at zedsport .
I’m surprised that I haven’t seen a bike porn shot with the Velovie that is advertised on the forum page.
Coming soon. Just have to get the steerer tube cut and put the race wheels on.
Because they all are “knock-offs” and in most cases aren’t good “knock-offs”, IMO (note opinion=does not need to be substantiated). There’s something about all the “knock-offs” that just doesn’t fit the whole package. Verticle dropouts, gaps between the rear wheel and tube, funcky seat post clamps, funky frame designs at the seat post, etc., etc… The most difficulty I have is with the frame design anywhere aft and directly below the seat tube entrance. There’s only a couple that actually come close to being fluid.
Really,
Where is the link?

it’s true I just bought one, the price isn’t updated on the site yet. Whole bike is also cheaper than velovie.
