I am a runner by back ground kinda used my running to pull me through cycling events but my knees say NAY! on big miles so the bike will be my new best friend. How much does cycling affect my running?
I started out as a runner as well, but in my experience have found that there is more carry over from biking to running than vice versa. The only way I’ve found to get stronger on the bike is through riding (and doing so intelligently…a program of base, temp, strength, hill workouts, etc.0. It paid off in spades, but my running “time” was cut back as a result. Fun thing was that the running results not only didn’t drop off, but in some instances actually improved. I used to run ~70-80 miles/week, and now seldom run more than ~25, even when building to an IM. My running times have stayed solid, and I even ran my lifetime PR in the 10K within the last two years, while training less on the run and more on the bike.
Just my experience…YMMV
