Why is it that it seems that bike dealers have absolutely no idea what other dealers have in stock? When I go to buy a car they type exactly the make and model I want and they get it. In many cases it comes off of some other dealers lot, no?
Why don’t bike dealers do this. I’ve seen more than a couple posts about people complaining about bke delivery only for them to find out a dealer here or somewhere else has it in stock. Seems a very ineffecient system to me.

THe car dealers dont own that system the vehicle Manufacturers do.
Trek has something similiar but it only shows whats in the distribution network not whats in other dealer stock.
The car dealers also don’t “own” all the cars on the lot as most will be financed. Bike shops own all the bikes in the shop.
Nope, the car dealer does “own” all the cars on their lot. Car dealers are completely independent of the manufacturers. When a car company posts Number of sales in a given period, that is the number sold to dealers. One way to increase # sold is to increase dealer inventory, Dealers don’t like this cause every day a car sits on the lot is money they lose. It is a bit more complex then this, but this is pretty much how it is. The government many years ago made sure they were seperate entities cant remember under which law at the moment.
