Bike crash in a crit...USCF insurance?

Did a bit of pavement surfing a few weeks ago…dozen screws and a plate later I am good to go…the medical bills are starting to come in. Thankfully I have decent insurance but it still looks like I will be out of pocket a couple K…does USCF insurance cover any of that? Anyone ever made a claim?

A couple of K? I’d argue with your insurer. That seems really high if you have any decent coverage. I.ve never heard of USCF paying anything…but who knows. Worth a try.

Well $400 deductible…80% up to $2000…hell the first bill I got was like $17,000
.

Let me ask Scotto about that. I think they covered some when he broke his jaw a few years ago in the 3/4 race at hotter than hell.

Thanks Sis, did you make a call on Tulsa Tough yet? Get your boy to bring you up here.

It’s his call, not mine. He is still limping around like a little puppy, but if he races well next weekend, it might inspire him.

My main focus is working on this Pagosa Springs race and trying to sell that through. He won’t be able to run, so it wouldn’t be much of a trip for him…

Yeah he said he was still a little gimpy

Yeah but the riding would be flippin awesome!

I am still on the fence for RATS…would crew if I don’t run it but still not sure if the ortho is going to release me. F**Ker

Their insurance is worthless. There’s a 30 day window in which to file a claim or you are sol. Since my knee issue didn’t immediately surface, I’m well over 2k out of pocket and probably $25k total. And still going to pt.

If you are referring to the insurance that the race organizer has through USA Cycling, then the answer is no. That insurance is not intended to cover the participants that may be injured through a crash. The insurance is intended to protect the organizer, USA Cycling and additional insureds (like the owner of the property where the race is located) from lawsuits and other things that could result from the event.

That’s a different insurance.

The insurance he’s talking about is helpful for people who may have no insurance coverage at all. Not so great as a secondary.

That is pretty much what I figured. Certainly didn’t expect much.

Well, I’ve heard about hurt feelings and broken spirits at bike races but Jesus…

Ever see someone pick their bike up in a race after a flat or derailment and throw it ? Imagine what they do when they get back to the RV

I guess that rules out next year’s newest spring classic Baghran - Kabul.

It’s pretty funny some of the stuff that gets lumped into insurance language. I was reading through my auto insurance policy and exception clauses included:
-Volcanic activity
-Discharge of a nuclear weapon (accidental or not)
-Revolution or civil war
-Catastrophic extraterrestrial impact

I thought the world was coming to an end. Trust me if a gigantic world ending meteor wipes out my car, my first thought will not be “guess I gotta call the insurance agent.”

Special event insurance for any sporting event is usually crap. My young son chipped a tooth in baseball last year and due to my high deductible insurance and ambulance, it cost me 1.5K. One year later and many letters I’m still waiting for the money from the little league insurance company.

Frankly, the best that I’ve seen in event insurance is where they only cover your deductible and even that is discounted.

I bet even the USAT insurance is worthless.
