Any recommendations (or warnings) for a bike computer with wireless cadence and maybe hrm?
I’m satisfied with my Sigma BC 1606. Easy to mount, low cost, have been working without any problems for a year now. OK size of digits, displays speed and cadence at the same time. (Or speed + one of the other functions). Small sensors.
Downsides (according to rumors, have not been any problem for me):
- Not coded signal - might be a problem in large groups.
- Waterproof? Have read that it’s not 100% safe in heavy rain, have been no problem for me - living in a rainy area with a lot of cycling in rain.
I’m very happy with my Polar S725x - wireless cadence and footpod can be bought separately.
I use a Polar CS200cad. I am happy with it and have no issues with it. The nice thing about it is it works with my other Polar HRM.
I had really good luck with both my Polar S710i and new S625x. I did set both the speed and cadence sensors to ‘high’ power.
My Mavic Wintech works great and is much cheaper than Polar or Sigma. I have not had a good experience w/my Cateye double wireless, however.
I have a polar CS200CAD on my Kestrel. My only complaint is the transmitter pods are a little bulky and have short range. I put a Sigma 1606 on my new Felt B2 and its seems to be working well. The transmitters are smaller and have a longer range. The polar cad sensor has to (or is recommended that you) mount it on your downtube. The sigma cad sensor goes on your chainstay in a more ‘aero’ fashion - not that the little 1" polar sensor on your downtube would do much to slow you down. No HR on the Sigma, but I’m usually wearing my watch. Sigma units have a pretty easy rubber band system that makes mounting pretty easy.
So far so good with the Cateye CDW… (can’t recall model but they only make one). Has been very dependable so far and has nice full function display. I like having the fork clean of any sensor so the rear mount is nice. Only tricky thing is some exotic frames with sweeping chainstays don’t give you lots of room for sensor and magnet. I ended up having to file down the magnet to get it to pass through.
I have a Mavic Wintech HR w/ cadence. As an engineer I couldnt pass up the sensor in the skewer design. Works well, but relatively expensive and you can’t download workouts to PC.
