I was looking to get the Hens House but it doesn’t seem that it works with the SC. What does everyone use to fly their SC’s with? I would prefer a lighter bag and/or whatever is best to avoid as many airlines fees as possible.
There was a guy on this thread flying with an XL Shiv, I would bet that the SC can’t be bigger.

I don’t have any experience with a Speed Concept. Why wouldn’t you expect it to work?

Ben, I have used a TriAll3 coffin case but that thing is huge.
I have a Biknd Helium case that I basically have never used and would be willing to sell. I know the SC fits in it because I put mine in there to make sure it fit. I was planning on doing an IM in Europe and bought the case for that trip… and then I never went on the trip.

Fork needs to be disassembled. So 9 series SC’s would not be able to fit, 7 series would if I understand correctly.
Yeah, one has to remove the fork to use the Hen House, which for ‘superbikes’ might mean disassembling just about the whole front end. At least it does for my Shiv. For my bike, the trick I figured out is to remove the front brake cable when I pack my bike, and use a new one when I reassemble it. Using the Hen House is more work, whether that’s worth it is up to you. I’ve found it to be a worthwhile purchase.

I’m considering an SC9 for my next ride, but not being able to take the fork off for travel would be a deal breaker. Is it literally not possible (obviously it’s possible at some level, but I’m talking about when you’re armed with nothing but a multi-tool and using a hotel ironing board for a workstand) or is it just a pain in the ass?
I bought a scicon bag for my felt DA. I haven’t flown with it yet so can’t comment on airline fees. But you only have to remove the wheels and your good to go.
I used a Triall3. While it isn’t small and light…it is bomb proof and protects your machine.(even with the gorilla’s that handle them). I’d rather pay an extra $20 for a flight due to the size…than arrive with my baby in pieces.
Besides…the tow strap and wheels make it easy to tow. And all I had to disassemble was the seat post taken out, front wheel off…and handlebars removed…fork stayed 100% intact. Packed in 5 minutes. Plus I could pack tools and pump in the case also along with helmet shoes etc.
I’ve flown with my SC with this bag before:
Had to pay bike fees about half of the time with it. It is light enough to walk up to check in with it on your shoulder.
I’ve flown internationally and had it tossed around a bit much for my liking but the bike has always survived!
My Large SC 9.9 fits well to a Biknd Helium bike case.
My SC9 fits in my Bikebox Alan. I had to unhook the front brake and let the aero bars hang.
Anyone know if a SC 9.9 will fit in a Trico hard shell case?
Am I out of the loop? Is there something novel about the SC front end that makes it a particular pain to disassemble? (I’m not being snarky, I’m genuinely curious.)

I was able to fit my size Large 9 series SC in a Trico case. The length dimension was a little tight. I sold the Trico and have been using a Thule Round Trip. It isn’t much longer but the fit is better.
The front brake cable/housing runs through the basebar and stem. The stem is integral to the fork and is both bolted on top and clamped to the steerer. So the stem only comes of for bearing replacement.
To pack the bike you pull the bars. The front brake uses a cable wedge with the housing fixed against the stem. Depending on the stem height there isn’t a lot of extra front brake cable/housing available to position the bars next to the frame after removal. Pulling the front brake cover and releasing the brake wedge usually provides enough room for packing. But the shorter the stem stack height the less cable you have available.
After 3 years of traveling with a small and large SC I have it down. But it does take more effort than a standard fork steerer stem and exposed cable combination.
I used a serfas with my 9.9 and it worked

I have flown with mike SC 9 series in this bag as well. I also have a BIKND and the Aerus is much lighter, thinner. I have only paid airlines fees twice after having traveled with it for at least 30 legs (15 round trips).
