Biggest Loser mistake again

If you caught the end of the Biggest Loser did you see yet another mistake. They said Dane finished the marathon (which they only said was 26 miles, splitting hairs here) in like 3:53. If you look at the finishing clock it said 5:53. I am super proud of the guy for finishing but this show first screwed up with the Ironman with his brother and now this. I think they need an athlete to help with their film editing.

I was like, “Damn, not bad!!” When I read that he ran a 3:53. Too bad. Still proud that the guy got out there and did a marathon, however!

what time does a fast walking pace get ya in a marathon?

Probably a little over six hours, at least they always showed him running. Not bad for a former 400+ pounder.

allright, as long as he actually jogged 90% of it I give him full credit =)

Did he do better then Katie Holmes? I think she went over 6hrs.

You should join in on the conversation in the Lavender Room.

yep, I noticed that too. My hat’s off to anyone finishing a marathon. But, NBC, needs to get the time correct! I can hear it now tomorrow at work… hey, the BIG LOSER was faster than you!!! I just finished my first… but, that’s a different post!!!

Guess what… he didn’t actually even finish.

From a blogger who did the same marathon as Dane:

There is a comment from Dane’s wife on the blog:

Hi! I’m Carli Patterson wife to the biggest loser contestant Dane Patterson. I had herd about your post and wanted to give you an explanation of what happened. I am so proud of my husband and his accomplishments. This has been an amazing experience for our family and unfortunatly this marathon has been a little exaggerated. In this industry you are always on a time frame and sometimes it is out of your control. We had stopped along the way to film at a water station and to make up for lost time our producers drove us ONLY 3 miles up the road. I am sorry if this has offended you in any way, but we are still incredibly happy about the 23 miles we ran. We were not listed as completing the marathon. Dane is an honest LDS Dad and I hope that they do say he completed this marathon because had time allowed he would have!

What a friggin crock.

You could cut through my seat post with those bad boys!

I thought this was going to be about how SQUATS make you live longer…I was thinking oh man, Ken’s a gonner for sure
.

I have been doing them non-stop since I saw that and I figure if I never quit then I will never die. I’ll let you know how this works out.

Post back when you are old and you don’t fall down.

What a dumb question that was… Is that really the best they could do?

when i was watching it i was amazed that he would have been under 4 hours especially watching the shots of them run, the blog comments from his wife certainly seem to clear it up a little more…that said, who cares 23 or 26 miles for a guy that size is awesome and if it helps get a few more people off the couch that that is great…don’t know him but i am proud of him
.

A television network knowingly lied to promote the credibility of their programming!? The hell you say.

It sounds to me like NBC lied and created footage for TV. Bad on them.

But Dane still lost a ton of weight, and actually got moving and did something. Whether he ran 26 miles, or 17 miles, or whatever, GREAT FOR HIM! He got off his butt and started moving. What he has done is incredible. And if NBC did make him stop, drive, whatever, I still think his accomplishment is great. And more than likely he will do a full marathon without NBC dictating it, but if he doesn’t, so what? He’s still done a great job and is more active than most people.

NBC may have created the footage, but it was Dane who lost the weight, and started excercising, and moved his feet for many miles. NBC couldn’t do that for him. Way to go Dane!

I agree and good for him. Quite impressive that he was able to turn his life around and get on the road to good health. But, much like many other aspects of the show, don’t you think it creates unrealistic expectations, which can be very very dangerous to the general public? Biggest Loser has already been slammed b/c a “week” on the show really is not 7 days. Quite often, the “week” is 10-12 days long. So, the “weekly” weight loss is often exaggerated. This has a tremondous negative impact on people at home, who watch the show and try to emulate the weight loss. When they come in with more realistic numbers, they get discouraged adn quit.

Now, we have one guy saying he is doing an Ironman and one guy claiming he did a marathon. Those are fantastic and incredible feats. However, neither are true. So, doesn’t this further the problem with the common man/woman looks and says, woah, that’s what I have to do??? No way!

There are inherent risks to misrepresenting the facts. Good for Dane! Shame on NBC.
