LOL! The Miss Piggy picture made me laugh out loud.
With how much Laura weighed and the high impact work they were doing it isn’t any surprise she got a stress fracture. I’m actually surprised more of them don’t. And yeah, the soda consumption must have been pretty high.
I thought Tara looked great. I still like her but I’d be happy if Mike won too. She is such a tough competator but Mike is so darn nice. I just wish Ron would go home. Geez he is annoying.
I thought the part with Max crying was heart breaking - as his parents it must have been killing them. I was also stunned to hear Ron weighed 200lbs at age 9 - wow.
The Mom is slim in that family - I"m kind of surprised the boys got that big under her watch.
Overall - good show & I’m impressed that Laura didn’t throw in the towel after being injured … remember, she balked at hard work in the first episode, this could have been an excuse for her to pack it all in, but she has not.
I think Tara looks better in some of the interview shots on the Ranch than she did in the makeover.
I like Mike too, he does look great. How did Ron marry his wife? Geez she was relatively attractive.
After reading that interview with Jillian someone posted last week or so, I can’t help watching now and trying to figure out who it is she hates and who it is she said was already looking for an agent when they came on the show. It’s no secret that there is no love lost between the Tongans and Jillian, but seems to be more than that. Seems the only people she has really connected with are Tara and Mike, notwithstanding last night’s cry-fest over Laura.
And again, with someone as young as Laura getting a stress fracture in her hip, let’s for once show an alternative to the gym workout and show them in the pool. Think people trying to do this at home are getting injured thinking it is all about treadmill and gym workouts? I smell class action lawsuit!
I was very impressed with Mike last night, not only for what he’s been able to do but also for the perspective that he’s gained that he shared with his brother. Unlike his dad, he doesn’t see this is as a game but as a life-changing event.
Ron is annoying but I gained a modicum of respect for him last night. Sending Laura home was the right thing to do, but not the smart thing to do - so kudos for voting the way he did. I also gained a little sympathy for him when he said he was 200 pounds at nine and over 300 at 15. He really never had a shot at being healthy growing up like that.
I do hope Mike wins and goes home and runs his little brother into the ground. He is an inspirational kid. Sitting there in his suit comforting his brother last night was heart wrenching. He looked so mature and calm in his new suit with his new body it is difficult to believe he is only 19.

Totally agree. Little brother is 17, I believe. How many people do NOT expect to see little brother on the show when he hits 18?
I have to wonder how the boys (Mike and his brother) ended up so large when their mother isn’t over weight. Did she not pay attention to what they were eating? The previews for next week show Mike confronting his father about his weight.
I was a bit surprised that they even had the option of keeping Laura with her injury. Obviously she needs rest / recovery / rehab, and that’s not what the BL campus is about. I think it’s amazing that they haven’t had more injuries. I also thought I heard Jillian say that Laura had been complaining about her hip hurting more and more, and that makes me wonder why she didn’t have it checked out earlier, or at least had Laura in the pool instead of jumping on steps.
I think keeping Laura at the ranch as an option was a CYA for Biggest Loser. Did you note that Biggest Loser is providing her medical care after she left the ranch?
I think all these contestants have constant aches and pains. Hell, I have constant aches and pains. I was absolutely stunned to hear that a 20-something had a hip fracture. That was crazy. I think Jill was surprised as well.
Remember when Sione simply turned his ankle? Jill was ready to take him for an MRI. Seriously??? An MRI for an ankle sprain??? So, I doubt they take injury lightly. I think Laura was doing reduced activity very early on.
Interesting note - Jill was on the radio this a.m. with the local DJs. She made a comment about her success on the show. She said something to the effect: “I have had back-to-back female Biggest Loser winners and could very well make that 3 in a row.” I thought the comment was interesting.
Question: How does a 20-something (Laura) break her hip??? Seriously, how much soda was she drinking that weakened her bone structure that much? <<
Same question you might ask Hillary Biscay a couple of years ago. Or a few STers who have had stress fractures (some people have have mulitple fxs). I doubt soda was the culprit.
I can’t stand Ron. He’s injured all the time and yet he says he needs to stay and not go home. How would it be any different for Laura? I hope Ron goes home soon.

Osteoporosis isn’t just for old folks anymore! Seriously though, there was a recent study of college-age women that found 2% of the subjects had full-blown osteoporosis and another 15% had significant losses in bone density (link to the news story here). The study suggested that contributing factors were a certain type of birth control injection, low body weight (Lara was a model so skinny at one point in her life), and inactivity. Hopefully Lara takes this as a wake up call and ups her calcium intake.
Actually, it would be cool for the BL to do bone density tests for contestants on future shows, especially the women. I’m sure they could get some sort of dairy board or supplement maker to sponsor that particular show.
LOL at the Miss Piggy makeover. Ron seems like one bad energy dude. And, yeah, like the one poster says above about the parents killing them. What’s with that mom? She must have some control issues over those guys. I bet she tries to keep that one fat. It’s pure child abuse. Don’t those kids have to go for mandatory physicals? She should be arrested or something.
I missed the first half hour last night so didn’t see the part when they were getting the makeovers, tuned in when Mike was talking to his brother Max (heartbreaking). I did expect them to do more with Helen’s hair however. It looked the same - was really hoping they would correct the color and cut it. Beside Ron, she is the other one who bugs me, her voice is just annoying. It will be interesting to see next week how Mike confronts Ron.
Unless I missed something they didn’t show the typical homecoming with Laura. Maybe she doesn’t have any family close by to where she lives. Good for her for maintaining her weight loss with the injury.
Interesting observation. Also, her best friend rather than a family member was there for her at the makeover. Maybe she can’t get the help she needs at home since she does not have the family support for the PT.
Part or all of the homecoming segment was devoted to the update on her injury. But I do wonder what her support system is like when she has a friend come to see her instead of family.
