So I was flipping through channels this evening…and the show the biggest loser is on, and as a challenge, they are having them do a triathlon. I don’t know what the distances are, but it’s a real SBR.
What would Swimfan think?

What’s a “looser”? An extremely relaxed person?
Two thumbs up. I think they should rename the show “The Biggest Winner” after what those contestants are putting themselves through.
oooooops my ‘o’ key sticks sometimes.
My wife was watching it and called me in to watch. They did a 200 yard swim, 5 mile bike and 1.5 mile run. No records being set and they weren’t on Cervelos but you’ve got to be impressed with what they have accomplished when they showed some before and after pictures.
Hey Cerveloguy, how was Australia?

Oz was wonderful. Just got back. Will give a late report once I get over my “diver’s ear” infection.
Yeah, I’ve never seen the show before and saw them getting out of the lake they were swimming in. They looked like they were working hard at it. Wonder if anyof them will catch the bug?
At least one already has. (I never watch, but my wife is an avid fan of the show). Apparently, one of the girls that was voted off used her experience on the show as a catalyst to completely change her life and she was able to continue losing weight and being healthy on her own at home. They showed a video of her competing in and finishing a tri.
Most worthwhile show on tv. Exercise, eat right and you lose weight. Hmmph, imagine that.
I agree! I think the show has motivated a lot of overweight people to lose weight the right way. I hate the glorification of gastric bypass surgery. It is so dangerous.
Jodi
yea-girls love it when the “o” lasts a long time.

OH… you know what a looser is… when you were in high school - those girls who smoked, wore tight shirts, and hung around the (American/European/Austrialian) football team… at least that’s what my mom said ![]()
dude, that show is flat out dangerous. They put these people through hell, someone is going to have serious injury or worse.

Or, they find out that they can actually do more than they think.
Good deal except the trainers were not wearing helmets while on the bike.

Something tells me that they have a medical staff around at all times…you know since it is a major television network… everything I saw seems very supervised
But helmets would have messed up their hair on TV. We couldn’t have that now, could we?
Absolutely terrific show! I am NOT a reality TV fan, but this show has a really good message. No pills - no magic potion to lose the weight, just hard work, exercise, and proper diet. I’m sure it’s inspired many to at least attempt a healthier lifestyle. This is good, no?
Huge fan of the show here. I think it’s great!
I especially like the fact that they brought in the doc for medical perspective.
great so I guess I can also go out and play with fire as long as I have a fireman around!
Losing 50-100 pounds in a matter of weeks is NOT safe, especially how they are doing it (high intensity activities). I don’t care how many doctors are there and those doctors have a major conflict of interest. You all recommend starting slowly and building a base before doing high volume training or you risk getting injured. Evidently this rule doesn’t apply to obese people. I have watched a couple episodes and think this is a serious accident waiting to happen. Of course that will do nothing but boost ratings.
The eating healthy part is great, but an exercise routine of walking and maybe aquarobics would be safer and recommended by most doctors. My mom is doing a similar program now and has safely lost 35lbs over the course of 4 months.
