Bigfoot Triathlon

Does anyone have an update as to whether the Bigfoot is going to be held this year and if so whether one would want to enter.

Thanks d.j. Why was it your toughest if its flat?

don’t do it…waste of money and the race director has been ordered to not offer a race there
.

The race director told me in an email that he won a lawsuit against the city and now they are mad at him. Too bad because I heard it is a very nice venue. I hope someone puts it on.

this guy is suing everyone!!! The whole province is trying to put him out of business as he has had 5 years to get his shit straight, but still puts on sub par and dangerous races. Problem is that he has ruined it for the town because of this the town will only let a race director in if they are willing to pay huge bucks to have it there…if only a good race had started there and gave back to the community I dont think we would have run into this problem (triathletes in b.c.). Now he is doing a tri series in the states at lake chelan…I hope those people realize not to race them? He has been chased out of b.c. and is moving the next closest and he’s trying to do it under the radar as his website is totally seperate from his b.c. race website ie. no links

All,

Can I assume you are not speaking about the Bigfoot Triathlon in Lake Geneva, WI? There is no litigation with regards to the WI event. The WI event is run by RAM Racing, one of the larger race production companies in the Chicago area. Since RAM has taken over control, there has never been any lawsuits filed against the race nor the company. It is a USAT sanctioned race and is annually used as the race the Chicago Tri Club has used for its newbie program.

Sorry if I hijacked this thread and there is another race out there with the same name. For more info on the WI event, go to

and please, feel free to google for reviews on this event.

Thanks

PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE RAM Racing with other local (to Lake Geneva) Race Directors. Bigfoot has a stellar reputation and no law suits at all. You are thinking of Frank Dobbs not RAM racing. Please get your facts right before you post such an inflammatory post.

To be fair, I have raced both. Lake Geneva 1/2 and Big Foot Sprint.

Lake Geneva 1/2, pathetic. I have never been more scared riding a bike than I ever have. The first aid station was not set up when we went through. We were forced to go through a T intersection, where the traffic coming across did not have a stop sign, and there was NO ONE, let me repeat, NO ONE directing traffic. The roads are compete crap. The race features over 30 turns and more than 1/2 have no one directing you to turn, all have spray paint.

Big Foot, I also went through 2-3 uncontrolled intersections when we are flying down the main highway. Besides that, its a good race.

I thought somewhere it is mandatory to have every intersection blocked, or patrolled.

If you want an amazing Wisconsin race, go up to Elkhart. It is now a USAT Regional Championship event, it grows every year and is simply amazing.

Don’t know anything about the Canadian iron distance Bigfoot race (http://www.triathlons.net/fullbigfoot/index.htm).

But the sprint and Olympic distance Bigfoot Triathlon in Lake Geneva,WI operated by Running Away is one of the best events out there for beginners and experienced triathletes alike. That race is being held on June 26 and I certainly would race it if I still lived there. http://www.bigfoottriathlon.com/

Yeah, dont confuse Bigfoot with a Frank dobbs adventure race. I have done BF a bunch of times. Much better since RAM took over. Challenging bike, trail run is awesome. Only thing… please please please get more racks for transition.

I would not touch this with a 100 foot pole… not worth it… you want a non WTC 140.6 in Canada - go to Ottawa or Montreal. I doubt they have permits for these fly by night events

Chip, the Bigfoot race in question (from the OP) is/was operated in BC, just outside of Vancouver. Not related to either Frank Dobbs or RAM or Lake Geneva in any way. And I would highly recommend NO ONE do any races put on by the RD from the BC-based Bigfoot…

I lived in Abbotsford in 2000/2001 and was told the race was garbage at that time and heard about horror stories from that time frame.

x 2 million about the BC Bigfoot. I watched the finish line in 2002, people finishing but not knowing where to go to the finish line - real gong show.

TriBC stopped sanctioning him around that time.

Although USAT sanctioned, I’m not aware of this race using USAT marshals. While I had a decent overall experience (I was looking for a local race with some good competition) I was disappointed by the chaos of course cutting on the swim, bike and run course as well as the large amount of drafting going on. Lastly, as another poster mentioned, there were two particularly dangerous intersections that had no volunteers.

If they clean up those issues I’d go back as the water and course are wonderful and the people at the race org seemed cool.

The other RD mentioned in these posts - well, I’d encourage folks not to go to his races. Such a waste of a perfect venue.

Elkhart Lake Triathlon is the best race in Wisconsin - great race.
