Bigfoot Triathlon Run Course

Anyone out there do the race today with a GPS or similar device. I thought the run course was a little long. I am pretty sure we made some turns this year that were not on the course last year. Just trying to figure out if I blew up on the run or I ran an extra half a mile…

Overall great race, great weather, great venue.

thanks

Big foot in Lake Geneva? Isn’t that through the woods? I think a GPS would be pretty inaccurate

I thought the same & it was confirmed to me that the loop was 3.5 miles, also there were a few people who made a wrong turn & eneded up running a shortened course.

I think it was 7 miles or 7.1 something like that. At least the bike was fun.

I’d love to have a final measure - ran it, too, and couldn’t believe my time - I am positive it was long, but not sure how long -

Also, seems that the swim may have been a little long, but can’t prove it - just surprised by my time and others times…

Was a great day for it, however - that said, a few mile markers on the bike or on the trail would have been helpful!!

But you got the coolest schag evah. I’ve been coveting my friend’s new tri bag with the cut bigfoot guy on it.

Pat

So true - the bag is pretty cool. I would have been happy with that, but they added a long sleeve T and a nice hat, too!!

BUT

I will have to put 1 complaint in - The race fee is close to $80 - there were 2 water stops on the course, total. At the end, there was a table with water cups and a box lunch (consisting of a PB&J sandwice, a small cup of pasta salad, and a banana). I asked if I could have a gatorade (which was behind the lunch guy) and he said yes, but I’d have to pay for it.

what??

So, 80 bucks for the event - 2 water stops, a basically inadequate meal following, cups of water at the finish - what did the fee go towards???

(Note to all: I RARELY complain about anything - but this just seemed silly)

There is no way that was a 5k/10k. That course was not correct and neither are the online results – see the overall results.

The olympic winner averaged 10:42/mile? 17th place averaged 8:17/mile on the run and 11.6 mph on the bike? How about 22nd place, a 32 min swim, 11.7 mph on the bike, then ripped off a 29:49 on the run (7:17 pace)? Great venue, great course, they needed to mark the run course and get the distances figured out, also a mat for the 2nd loop, I think these folks here didn’t run a 2nd loop. The swim was not a rectangle, more like a triangle, lots of confusion in the water. There was no swim map on the website. How hard is it to put swim map on the site?

Sorry to be so critical, it was a great race and well run otherwise, but it could truly be great with some more attention to detail.

Bag-40-50 bucks at least
shirt 10
hat 7

Ummm, pediatric oncology I think.

Honestly, I think you got a pretty good deal.

P

Well, depends on how you look at it. I’m all about donating to a charity or to pediatric oncology in this case, but if they spent 40-50 bucks for the bag, 10 for the T, and 7 for the hat (thats $57 - $67 total), how much actually went to the cause?

I’m new to tri’s, but have run for several years in 5K’s to multiple marathons. Maybe it’s my fault, but I’ve never looked at it like I was actually paying for the goodie bag - I thought I was giving money for a cause. If this is the case (that I’m paying for a goodie bag) - I’ll ask to bypass that and just donate directly and participate in the event -

oh wait, I don’t think I can do that… (that’s my sarchasm)

I agree that the bag, T, and hat are nice - but I don’t NEED them. I think after an average duration of 2 3/4 hours in the water, on a bike, and running, maybe I could use a bottle of gatorade or the like. I’ve NEVER been told that I’d have to pay for a drink after a race - justs saying I thought that was very, very unusual.

The run distance was off. This was my third time doing this race and the run was long.

The food sucked. When Vic use to run the race there was plenty of good food to go around.

No way that bag is worth $40-50. I’ll sell mine if anyone is interested?

My bad fell apart already. Oh, well. Yes the food did suck big time. Run was really long, swim might have been too and bike was just a bit short. I still like the race mainly because I can drive out race morning. When they said box lunch I thought that it would be one of theose Corner Bakery boxes, not a old pb&j.

Those are good points. Nourishment, especially liquid, is very important after a race. I didn’t do the race so I only have the perspective of lusting after the tri bag.

And there’s a whole thread about how I agree that if you want to donate to a cause you should donate to a cause. Don’t want a whole tri hypocrite thread in my honor ; )

Pat

Not at all - I’m not big into atacking people on threads that are clearly here to help, which you clearly are here to do.

If you check the AG results, they seem to have the correct pacing… in as much as if the distances really were 1.5/40/10 ( both the swim and run were longer in actuality ).

I’ve done this race in the past, and the turn buoy for the swim was definitely a lot farther out than I remember it. And of the overall winners, all swam >25 minutes. That’s pretty telling to me.

I too definitely could have done without the transition bag, and preferred more/better on-course/post-race nutrition. The box lunches were a joke. A bruised banana, stale bread with smidgen of peanut butter, and teeny cup of pasta in italian dressing posing as salad.

Has anyone heard anything official regarding the distances? What actually WAS the run / swim? Was the bike correct?

I received an e-mail from RAM stating the run course was 6.9, nothing on the swim though.

Looks like they sent out a mass email saying the run was indeed long. This was my third time doing it,and I knew that the new sharp left turn before the campground had not been there previous years. Based on my run time that gave us almost half a mile extra on the trail for each loop.
Swim felt a little long too, but the bike was the same.
The free dinner at the Abbey on saturday was nice, and sure to have cost a little, by the way. Big tent , wedding reception style , with two bars at the end. Poor bartenders -they looked bored - not many triathletes are going drinking before a race…

Anyone else besides Rockhopper think the bike course was short? My bike split was a tad shorter than expected, but I was hoping it’s because I had a great ride.
