Bicycle sports in LA

Guys, can anyone tell me the address of John Cobb’s Bicycle sports store in LA? Also how far is it from LAX? Ballpark figure for a cab fare there?

Julian in England.

Is there still one there? Is there any truth to the rumor that BicycleSports nearly bankrupted a couple weeks ago and that the Shreveport store is no more?

Julian;

We do not have a store in LA. We do have a store in San Diego. Dave Bunce (A Bicycle Sports employee for 12 years) is the store manager and can be reached at 760-944-5700. Please give Dave a call and he will get you going.

Thanks Cody, I’ve obviously been given duff gen. Any idea when the new website will be up? It still says to look back later in the week, just doesn’t say which week!!

A; There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that Bicycle Sports is in or near bankruptcy. The Shreveport store is not only “still open”, it is the host shop of the age group nationals this weekend. What you may have heard about the Shreveport store is that John Cobb is no longer there. That “rumor” is true. He has relocated to Tyler, Texas where we have our warehouse and distribution center. John is still available in Shreveport for positionings by appointment only. Also, I noticed that you post under a name located in Florida. We are in the process of signing a lease in Clearwater and Brian Cowan the manager of the new Bicycle Sports Florida has already relocated. He can be reached by calling 318-573-6005. He will be available at that number until the new shop opens. Look for one other Texas based location for Bicycle Sports to be open in the next 3-4 months as well.

I hope that answers your questions. Please feel free to call me at 800-365-2453 if you have additional questions or comments.

Julian;

The site is finished and ready to go up and just before launching we found that we had a glitch in information processing on the backend of the site. We have fixed it and we plan on beginning to launch the new site this Friday.

Cody: Thanks for clearing that up. As you know, rumors fly very fast nowdays. With the website being re-designed, it left a lot of people I know speculating.

Did you hear that noise? That was the sound of my jaw dropping and hitting the desk when reading the previous post about “City Cycles” (the new name of the store) being closed.

My bike is at that store and faithfully waiting for me to pick it up tomorrow afternoon.

Dang what a scare.

“That was the sound of my jaw dropping”

that is why it is my GREAT preference that we treat urban myths (and rural ones too) with special care on this forum, when they revolve around the health of a business in the tri community, or the safety of a product made by someone in the tri community.

i’m glad cody smith had the opportunity to post. i’d have posted sooner, but i was traveling to shreveport (where i’ll be shopping at a very OPEN city cycles this morning).

Hey Slowman - wasn’t trying to start a panic or anything and that’s why I used the word rumor. I probably should have capitalized that word or something to make it clear that it was just something I had heard. BTW, why is that store now called City Cycles? Are all the stores changing names? Good luck this weekend and like a lot of others, I can’t wait to hear how the new ride does.

A;

City Cycles is simply the name of our family shop in Shreveport. It also has a Bicycle Sports location within its walls. It just has become known as City Cycles in the tri community becasue the sign on the front of the shop is larger than the Bicycle Sports sign.
