Bibs or shorts

…what’s your preference and why?

Bibs - comfort - look at what the tour guys ride - they must know a thing or two
.

What about them makes them more comfy.

Bibs hold the pad of the shorts tight against your crotch and prevent your package from moving around when yu get up and down out of the saddle. When the pad is held firmly against your crotch the fabric works better to transport moisture away from your skin. Bibs also make the butt fit better, preventing it from sagging and wrinklng- you don;t want to sit on wrinkles in the fabric, that creates hot spots- no good.

I vote for bibs. Like the other fella says, everyone in the tour is wearing them.

Are you talking the fabric, or the ass itself? If the latter, I might just wear bibs 24/7…

You know the pros are like Mr. Tibbs, whores…they’ll wear what the team gives them…for the most part…I don’t know if they wear them because they’re chic or not…that’s why I’m asking  thanks for the info, much appreciated…

Bibs are the shiznit. WAY more comfortable (for the reasons Tom outlined), plus you don’t get any constriction at the waist/rolling down (hey - we can’t all be skinny like Tyler).

The only drawback comes when you need to *take *a shiznit…

Unquestionably bibs.

bibs for sure

Unless you are talking about tri racing then I would say shorts cause I have never see tri bibs
.

BIBS!!!

wear bibs for a few rides & you’ll never want to wear your shorts ever again.

i have 3 pair of shorts & one bib…i NEVER wear the shorts anymore…

for me, the shorts “cut” into my waist…the bib is SOOOO comfortable it’s unbelievable!

good luck!

Desoto - they are billed as bike but the pad is only slightly thicker than tri shorts. they are very comfortable and have one thing that I have never seen on bibs - a rear pocket - comes in handy

Thanks all…I appreciate the input!

I go for bib shorts too. Ditto on the fit and crotch part. also, there is no wasteband which in regular shorts I find folds over and becomes uncomfortable in the long run. Lots of comfort with bib shorts. I also train in colder weather outside using bib tights too…same reason as bib shorts. Best way to go.

My Santini bibs have a big rear pocket.

The Santini bibs CX Lycra with Twist Gel Chamois are really nice. And yes, they have a rear pocket too. Bibs rule.

how much are these?

World Cycling Productions recently had them on sale, $109 (US) marked down to $79.

Look under “Technical Wear”

I agree that the Santini Cx Twist Gel Shorts are great! Try to get last years external pad version. I has a sepeaate unit that is flat seamed to the short and has a coarse mesh on the outside. They dry almost immediately after the swim, under a wetsuit and are very thin padding for a bicycle short so they are great for the run. I have two pairs. One I brought to a seamstresss and had her make the bib into a short, since the external pad only comes as a bib. I wore these at IMOO this year and had no problems on the run or the bike.

After wearing shorts for years, I just bought some bibs last week based on what this forum recommends. I must confess they are very comfy and I do like them much better. No waistband to roll up or down. I bought some Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor and so far so good. I am kinda curious if they will feel hot in the summer but straps are pretty light mesh. Going pee in them is no problem either if you get ones with a low front. Go for it…you will love them.

Bibs. I haven’t worn shorts since my first pair of bibs over 5 years ago. And I recommend that you spend at least a $100 on a good pair, otherwise you wear through the cheaper ones. I currently prefer the Louis Garneau UltraDry which cost around $120. With rotating multiple pairs, they will last me forever…
